Owl (Rik Walter) attempts to rehearse his new play with a lively and opinionated ensemble of farm animals: Chicken (April J. Barber), Pig (Ariel Blake), Dog (Adam Burby), Cow (Erin Nelson), Sheep (Mary Albert), and Cat (Denisse Estefany Mendoza). Tensions flare when a crisis befalls the animals and the ensemble rejects Owl's arty attempt for one of their own devising - one that sheds light on our own relationships with animals, children, and art. This provocative dark comedy asks, “At a time of crisis, who will stand up and be the pig, and who will be the owl?”
About the Company: UP Theater Company
UP Theater Company (James Bosley, Artistic Director) was founded in 2010 by Inwood theater artists who endeavored to bring professional productions to their neighborhood of Northern Manhattan. Eschewing crowd-pleasing chestnuts, UP produces provocative new work by contemporary playwrights. After six years and eight full productions, including Ashé, Broad Channel, Epic Poetry, and last year’s critically acclaimed production of An American Drum Circle; UP has established a reputation for being gritty, rambunctious, and irreverent.
