Stories My Grandmother Told Me  | Open: 09/27/13 Close: 10/20/13
This new play adopted from short stories by Ted Swindley weaves a modern Southern gothic tale of a young man's relationship with the matriarch of his family. With content reminiscent of Tennessee Williams and a style similar to A.R. Gurney's 'Love Letters' and 'Ancestral Voices', this highly theatrical narrative piece will touch the hearts of audiences who understand the strong influences that grandparents have in their lives.

About the Company: The Spiral Theatre Studio

The unique aspect of The Spiral Theatre Studio is the stage. The stage consists of a Hexagon divided into twelve (12) fully carpeted modular pieces that move upon a fully carpeted floor. These modules are moved within the context of the performance by the actors/characters.

The stage, once called The Chamber Theatre and since named The Spiral, was conceived and utilized by Russian born Iza Itkin for the purpose of training and performance during the later half of the Twentieth Century. The objective of this innovative stage includes teaching, workshops, performance, seminars, readings, and cabaret. We intend to accomplish this with the utmost consideration toward sustainability. This is achieved by becoming the first truly “Green” theatrical performance space in New York City. All our productions on this environmental-friendly construct will eliminate the use of sets. By not having load-ins and load-outs, we can function in a controlled environment.

Additionally, the work of The Spiral Theatre Studio will enrich other disciplines including psychology, philosophy, literature, music and the visual arts. We believe this new form will contribute greatly to Twenty-first Century Theatre by producing a higher level of entertainment, education and exaltation.
