7th Inning Stretch  | Open: 05/17/13 Close: 05/19/13

Neil LaBute (Broadway, Reasons to Be Pretty) leads an impressive lineup of writers for Mile Square Theatre’s 2013 7th Inning Stretch, with his newest work Squeeze Play. LaBute is joined by some of America’s finest playwrights in this annual event that has thrilled theatre fans for over 10 years. Contributing new plays this year are Brooke Berman (Helen Merrill Award Winner), Eric Conger (Walnut Street Theatre), Edith Freni (Steppenwolf Theatre), Jay Koepke (O’Neill National Playwrights Finalist), Jon Marans (Pulitzer Finalist), and Mat Smart (McKnight Advancement Grant). Chris O’Connor, MST Founder and Artistic Director, says of this year’s event, “Once again, we’re fortunate to have a stellar group of writers contributing to this unique evening. A passion for baseball and playwriting converge on our stage every year for this festival of 10 minute plays. Each year we are honored that such skilled writers come up with their unique take on baseball. It’s an event that is eagerly anticipated by our audience, and this year’s show will certainly satisfy.”

7th Inning Stretchis Mile Square Theatre’s annual fundraiser, and this year the Hudson County professional theatre is making some big steps towards growing into one of New Jersey’s premiere regional theatres. In June, the company is returning to its roots with an open-air production of Shakespeare’s comedy Twelfth Night at Sinatra Park in Hoboken; it will soon join forces with the area’s premiere theatre education program, Hoboken Children’s Theatre; and is making plans to renovate its intimate performance venue, the Monroe Theatrespace. With its growing budget, MST, a non-profit professional theatre, hopes to raise needed funds to sustain its 2013 programs and productions.

The 11th Annual 7th Inning Stretch will be presented at the Monroe Theatrespace, at the Monroe Center for the Arts. 720 Monroe Street, 2nd Floor. Performances are Friday, May 17 @ 8pm, Saturday, May 18 @ 7pm, and Sunday, May 19 @ 3pm. Saturday evening’s performance includes The Triple Play Party, where food and drink from Hoboken’s best restaurants are included with the price of admission.

It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play  | Open: 12/06/12 Close: 12/23/12
Celebrating their 10th Season, Mile Square Theatre–Hudson County’s leading professional Equity company–will present a revival of It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play from December 6 through December 23 at the Monroe Theatrespace (located at 720 Monroe St. in Hoboken, 2nd Floor).
It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play by Joe Landry offers an enchanting theatrical take on Frank Capra’s classic holiday film, as Mile Square Theatre transforms its space into a 1940’s radio station, and presents this American favorite in front of a live studio audience. NewJersey.com called last season’s production of It’s A Wonderful Life, “...in a word, wonderful!” Five actors perform dozens of characters as well as produce the sound effects in Capra’s timeless tale of individualism, optimism, and community.
It’s a Wonderful Life is our holiday gift to our audience,” states Chris O’Connor, MST’s Artistic Director. “We hope to make the play a lasting holiday tradition. It’s a play that parents can bring their children to, or it can be a great date play as well.”
Mile Square Theatre, called “...the treasure of Hoboken,” by Peter Filichia in the Star-Ledger, has put together a cast that includes Martin Landry (Twilight: The Musical, Off-Broadway at New World Stages) as George Bailey, and Eliza Simpson (recently seen in MST’s box-office smash Go, Dog. Go!) as Mary Bailey. The ensemble includes Whitney Brown (The Last Goodbye, Broadway workshop), and MST regulars Charlie Kevin (God of Carnage), and Andy Nogasky (7th Inning Stretch). Mary Kate Burke, former artistic director for Pennsylvania's Millbrook Playhouse, will direct the production.
It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, produced by Mile Square Theatre at the Monroe Theatrespace (located at 720 Monroe St. in Hoboken, 2nd Floor), runs from December 6 through December 23, Thursday through Saturday at 8pm, and matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 3pm.  Tickets are available online at (www.milesquaretheatre.org), and at the Monroe Theatrespace box office, or by calling 201-683-7014 for reservations. Tickets are $20. Students and seniors, $12.
On Thursday, December 13 @ 8pm, there will be a special PAY WHAT YOU WILL performance.  Audience members can pay whatever they wish.
