IRUKA and July 13, 1987  | Open: 08/04/12 Close: 08/04/12
IRUKA is a man’s journey between two opposite poles, such as ying and yang, or plus and minus. As the man travels back and forth between those poles, his schizophrenic state and distorted sense of time are spellbindingly revealed. Translated as “Are you here?” the title IRUKA questions the presence of the man onstage. July 13, 1987 is an experiment in “violence” for two men: Two performers carry out violent actions as their task. Kota Yamazaki draws on his background in butoh to create constantly fluid and visually striking original works for Kota Yamazaki/Fluid hug-hug and other national and international companies. In 2007, Yamazaki received a Bessie Award with Germaine Acogny for the choreography of FAGAALA performed by Senegal-based dance company, Jant-bi.

The Xenotext  | Open: 07/27/12 Close: 07/27/12
For the past ten years, Bök has striven to engineer an unkillable bacterium so that it becomes not only a durable archive for storing a poem encoded in its genome, but also an operant machine for writing a poem in response—a living poem that can literally survive forever. 7:00 pm Performance / 8:00 pm DinnerArt-b-q Fridays best encapsulate the essence of Mount Tremper Arts. Meeting Point  | Open: 07/14/12 Close: 07/14/12
Curated by Boru O’Brien O’ConnellFeaturing works by Charles Atlas, Nicholas Buffon, Xavier Cha, David Horvitz, David Levine, Sharon Lockhart, Jen Rosenblit and C. Spencer Yeh, Sergei Tcherepnin and Ei Arakawa, Triple Canopy, and Jacques Louis VidalThis exhibition takes Mount Tremper Arts as both a point of convergence and departure for artists engaging with creative disciplines outside their own. Within MTA’s studio and surrounds, different types of performances inform each other, and conversations about their contingencies and commonalities emerge. In these works, the idea of “performance” is itself a site of mutual investigation: photographers reveal everyday choreography; sound artists explore listening as performance; writers stage events to complicate their texts; and visual artists parse the somatic languages of dance and sleep. Exhibition Opening 3:00–8:00 pm FREE - no advance purchase necessary to attend the exhibition.Performances and Video throughout the day by Charles Atlas, Xavier Cha, Jen Rosenblit with Spencer Yeh, and Jacques Louis Vidal.
