A Midsummer Night's Dream, Face To Face Series  | Open: 04/16/14 Close: 04/18/14
Touching, joyously inventive and particularly close to Shakespeare’s heart, Midsummer Night's Dream is filled with the most delightful creatures on a roller coaster of emotional depth and humor in this premiere by Ajkun Ballet Theatre choreographed by Chiara Ajkun. New Chamber Ballet's 2013-2014 season continues with a program of four ballets, including a world premiere and a revival, all with live music:Miro Magloire's new dramatic quartet set to a selection of short piano works by Franz Liszt. Leise, Leise, a Chekhovian family portrait to music by Luciano Berio.Love Song Solos, set to German art songs arranged for two maracas, "wonderful little sketches, lush and evocative." (Marina Harss, The Faster Times)The revival of Composition in Dark Colors, a fast-paced psychodrama miniature to a piano sonata by Haydn. Performers include Sarah Atkins, Miriam Ernest, Traci Finch and Amber Neff. Known for creating contagious joy through movement, General Mischief Dance Theatre takes audiences on "clever and original" TheaterOnline dance adventures. General Mischief has conjured up a family-friendly, entertaining, playful yet clever show for children and adults alike.

The production features a company of virtuosic dancers that have performed all over the world. The choreography, by Artistic Director Emily Smyth Vartanian and Celine Rosethal as well as special guests, takes on matters both serious and carefree, set to music by Ozomatli, Paul Tillotson and the Love Trio, and newly-commissioned work by Lizzie Hagstedt. General Mischief has produced performance events at Manhattan Movement and arts, The Connelly Theater, Theater for the New City, Zipper Theater, Medicine Show Theater, and Alvin Ailey, as well as appearing in festivals and dance productions throughout New York City and California.

The enchanting and ancient India sets the background to a story of eternal love, exotic mystery and inevitable fate. Nikiya, La Bayadre [Temple Dancer], loves Solor, a noble Warrior. A vivid palette of human intrigues to separate the lovers is destroyed by virtue of the Gods and Goddess of mysterious India.


Performance Art"

New York-based orchestra Ensemble 212 and Michael Mao Dance present a stunning visual and musical collaboration titled "Cultural Convergences" celebrating NYC Immigrant Heritage week. The performance features the music of award-winning composer Huang Ruo and the world premiere of Mahler's Der Abschied from Das Lied von der Erde in a new version for large chamber ensemble by Yoon Jae Lee. Percussionist, Ayano Kataoka & Mezzo-Soprano Hyona Kim is the featured soloists. Guest conductor Kyunghun Kim will lead the ensemble.
