Toddy also extends the invitation to his conniving brother Henry and Henry's hypochondriac wife Agnes in a plot to obtain their related portrait. Over pate, crepes and antics by the French maid, Honore, high notes from Marty’s opera singer wife, and pretentions about their Jewish roots, a wager is made between the brothers as to who will get Marty’s portrait, and possibly the related portrait of the other brother.
