Mo Beasley's UrbanErotika is a live performance series celebrating erotic love through poetry, spoken word, music, dance and theatre - as expressed from the diverse cultures of New York City.
Each performance is composed with four Suites of Eros and starts with the most soft and sensual, ending with the most wild and explicit. The Infatuation Suite, Seduction Suite, Sweet Bliss, and the Raw Suite are the full spectrum of romantic and sexual love at UrbanErotika.
THE ARTISTS
UrbanErotika is perhaps one of New York's most diverse artist showcases. Over the years, the theater-styled performance series has manifested its eclectic intentions by featuring Puerto Rican tap dancers, Korean folk singers, West African dancers, Jewish musicians, South African singers, Caribbean poets and singers, as well as the tri-state area's best known African American poets, dancers, and musicians.
National slam poets and Def Poetry Jam poets such as Post Midnight, Ainsley Burrows, Shawn Randall, Brother Earl, Tantra & Fisiwe, Butta Fly Soul, Sister Nzingha, Mahogany Browne, and others have performed at UrbanErotika. There have also been special guest appearances by dancers from leading companies such as Jazz Ain't Dead and Danse 4 Nia.
The series'musical features have included Maritri, The SoulFolk Experience, Sabrina & Giorgio, Renee' and The Derelicts, Shelton Garner, Shelley Nicole's blaKüshe, Masauko Chipembere, Brilliant Coroners, Digital Gypsy, Silk $ Bills, and more.
Whatever the genre, UrbanErotika is created to unify the experiences of mature love and responsible sex in a variety of artistic expressions.
THE AUDIENCE
Since its inaugural season in 2001, the audience has grown to reflect a microcosm of the "8 million stories in a naked city" that is New York. The
audience consists of young urban professionals; college students; singles, couples, husbands and wives; straight, gay, and bisexual women and men, all of various racial and ethnic backgrounds. They are regular bar-hoppers and event-goers and the age spans from 21 to 45.
The UrbanErotika following, including the curiosity-seekers, the closeterotiks, and the converts, typically sell out the show . A 30-something woman, who is a regular, claims "UrbanErotika is my..guilty pleasure and the only place I can go and hear my true thoughts and feelings about sex and relationships expressed...and embraced."
WHAT UrbanErotika IS NOT
UrbanErotika is not pornography. It is designed to stroke the organ between the ears and allow the imagination develop the rest. Created for a mature audience, UrbanErotika re-defines and refines the definition of Eros as "the personification of Love in all its shades and aspects." In short, UrbanErotika is "the house that Lust built and Love saved from damnation."

LEAVING NORMAL
New York City. People come from all over the world to try and make it here. Leaving behind a conventional life to come to this extremely unusual and challenging place to pursue their dreams of success.
For those who do not live here, it is hard to envision what life is really like in New York City . The commute. The hustle and bustle. The daily hamster wheel of activity and all the obstacles to overcome - just to make it through each day.
In no other place is it so difficult to get to work (at a job you may hate), do your laundry, get your groceries, walk your dog, pay your bills and at the same time try to pursue your dreams and beyond that - maybe meet someone.
Yet those of us who live here wouldn't trade it for the world. It's the ultimate love/hate relationship. You tell yourself you are through with this City and are leaving, but a week later this City sends you flowers with a sweet enclosure and you relent and vow to stay.
Avalon Studios NYC, Inc. launches into New York's performance and art scene with its Inaugural Event, “ LEAVING NORMAL.” Featuring company performers, musicians and writers, Avalon takes a humorous and heartwarming look at life in the Big Apple as told in a collection of tales & tunes. Conceived & Directed by Deborah Mathieu-Byers with Musical Direction by Steve Byers.
CAST: Jonathan Berenson, Stephen Byers, Emily Code, Victoria Gillette, Talene Kelly, Jerome McIntosh, Jessica Park, Michael Shimkin, Jay William Thomas

borrowed from the circus big-top. Her acts are noted for their stunning
and original combinations of contortion, classic Burlesque stylings,
