Write Act Repertory Eastside’s Producing Artistic Director John Lant present the New York Premiere of FABULOUS!, a celebrated limited engagement, opening August 11th, and closing August 26th 2012.
New York – Fabulous! The Queen of New Musical Comedies is a farce in the style of the Golden Age of Broadway. The show is a cross between Anything Goes, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Some Like It Hot. It begins in Paris! Two female impersonators, Jane Mann and Laura Lee Handle, are down on their luck. Backing up Sue Flay, the worst Drag Diva in France, proved a complete disaster. They're jobless and homeless. Just when Jane and Laura Lee get ready to throw in their powder puffs ... a telegram! They'll headline as fabulous showgirls on a cruise ship, the Queen Ethel May. The catch? Keeping their male identities a secret from snooping crew members, jewel heisting gangsters and every gentleman caller that comes their way. It's vintage musical theater meets contemporary farce in a new musical comedy where practically everything goes.

A Girl Wrote It is back again after its critical success in 2011. This year, Wide Eyed Productions has upped the ante by bringing together some of the most gifted emerging and established female playwrights beingproduced today.
From first flings and early love to failing bonds, exploration, and erotic courtship, the five stories in this year’s A Girl Wrote It will present comedies and dramas that explore relationships and contemporary issueswhich press and spark our imaginations.
Kicking off their fifth season with new Artistic Director Tim Butterfield at the helm, Wide Eyed Productions looks to establish itself as a new staple of the Off-Broadway scene with risk-taking, relevant theatre that highlights a richly talented and established ensemble of actors, directors, writers, and artists.
About the playwrights:
BEKAH BRUNSTETER was a part of A Girl Wrote It 2011 and is back again in 2012 with her play YES. Bekah has been produced Off-Broadway by The Atlantic Theater and Naked Angels. This fall Roundabout Theater will producer her play CUTIE AND BEAR and her play OOHRAH! is presently being produced at Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago. Bekah is currently writing for a new MTV series, Underemployed.
HEATHER LYNN MACDONALD is loaning her talents to Wide Eyed in the form of her play EARLY MICHIGAN. Heather has previously been produced Off-Broadway by The New Group for her play EXPATS at Theater Row.
DEIRDRE O’CONNOR has been produced recently in Chicago and Off-Broadway. She has won an Emmy for her work on The Electric Company and penned a segment for the Lifetime original movie FIVE. Wide Eyed is thrilled to be producing her play PENICILLIN for A Girl Wrote It.
LAURA MARIA CENSABELLA is Wide Eyed’s Resident Playwright for the 2012 season and two of her plays will be included in AGWI; STONES FALL, BIRDS FLY and POSING. Laura’s plays have been produced or workshopped by Ensemble Studio Theatre (where she is a member and runs the professional Playwrights Unit) The Philadelphia Festival Theatre for New Plays, The Women's Project & Productions, The Working Theatre, Interact Theatre in L.A., and the Belmont Italian American Playhouse (which commissioned her play SOME GIRLS). Her one act play INTERVIEWING MISS DAVIS was produced in 2010 in Ensemble Studio Theatre’s One Act Marathon of Plays. For 2010/2011 she received an EST/Sloan Foundation Commission to write a new science-based play. Ms. Censabella has been awarded three grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts: two in playwriting for ABANDONED IN QUEENS and THREE ITALIAN WOMEN, and has also been a two-time participant in the O'Neill Playwrights Conference. Her short play POSING was nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and THE ACTUAL FOOTAGE won the Tennessee Chapbook Prize for Drama.

PENICILLIN: John attempts to butter-up Jen by telling her, of all the women he’s given an STD, she’s the only one he’s visited at the clinic. “Deirdre O'Connor's unexpectedly moving PENICILLIN finds John (an oddball James McMenamin) attempting to butter up Jen (Nancy McNulty in a resourceful performance) by telling her that of all the women that he's given a sexually transmitted disease to, she's the only one he visited in a health clinic. Which somehow comes off sweeter than it sounds.” - The New York Times
EARLY MICHIGAN: Pam and Serge visit their friends, Kyle and Mia, who escaped the demands of living in New York to start a family. Pam and Serge struggle to take the next step in their lives, whatever it may be.
POSING: Elaine has a plan to lift her out of the misery of her life, but it requires the help of the gruff and abusive bartender, Pete.
STONES FALL, BIRDS FLY: Lenny, a self-made aviator, lives in a world that tells him he belongs on the ground, but all he wants to do is fly.

BIOS:
Rabbi Sol Solomon (Himself) is the spiritual leader of Temple Sons of Bitches in Great Neck, New York. Despite the valiant efforts of programming directors and city governments, Rabbi Sol continues to appear on numerous radio stations and make personal appearances wherever there’s free food. His Rabbinical Reflections air weekly on UNC Radio’s Dave’s Gone By and are then archived on Youtube and ShalomDammit.com. A learned scholar and a thrilling kvetch, Rabbi Sol’s hobbies include burping and pain management. The Rebbe dedicates this evening to his dear wife, Miriam Libby, and their 21½ mostly beautiful children.
Dave Lefkowitz (Co-creator) is the host of Dave’s Gone By on UNC Radio (davesgoneby.com), the co-publisher of Performing Arts Insider theater journal, and the founder of TotalTheater.com. Dave’s plays include Kandide (winner Lee Korf Award and produced by The Original Theater Works, L.A.), The Triple Wedding, and the one-acts The Sky is Calling, Human Error, King Solomon the Wise and the oft-produced Blind Date. A collection of his plays, “Marriage, Babies and the End of the World,” was published by Holvoe Books, St. Petersburg, and his theater writing has appeared in BackStage, Playbill, Show Business and Entertainment Weekly. As a performer, he hosted “Stagebuddy.com Live” at the Player’s Theater in 2009-10. Dave’s monthly theater column appears in Long Island Pulse, and he has written numerous cover stories for Long Island Woman magazine.
RichardShore (Musical Director) once considered entering the rabbinate until he met Sol Solomon. After many lengthy discussions with the great tzadik, he now works happily in the theater and academia. Among his many accomplishments, Richard has been music director for Fiddler on the Roof six times.

The award-winning Retro Productions presents a revival of the haunting drama THE RUNNER STUMBLES, which enjoyed a two-year run on Broadway.
Part courtroom drama, part whodunit, THE RUNNER STUMBLES is based on a true story of a Nun’s mysterious murder in a remote parish in northern Michigan in the Nineteen teens and the charge that her superior, Father Rivard, is her murderer. The alternating action between interrogations, testimony and scenes from the past reveal that Father Rivard, who had been banished to the small, up-country parish, fell in love with Sister Rita; and when circumstances forced her to move into the rectory with him, his anguish became unbearable. Their relationship, inevitably, spelled tragedy, but not until the explosive and surprising climax of the play is the full extent of their sacrifice made clear.

About the Company: Retro Productions
It is the mission of Retro Productions to present works of retro theatre. Retro is defined as "involving, relating to, or reminiscent of things past (American Heritage Dictionary)." At Retro Productions we will strive to tell good theatrical stories which have an historical perspective -with an emphasis on the 20th century- in order to broaden our own understanding of the world we live in. We believe through stories of human lives and struggles, both dramatic and comedic, we can understand social history and culture and how it affects us today.
Retro received recognition from their first two productions of Catholic School Girls and Mrs. California (as River Heights Productions) then gathered momentum in their third season with the Retro production of Still Life. Also directed by Ric Sechrest, Still Life received accolades from playwright Emily Mann: "Your production got it...Every aspect of the experience was first rate. Retro is clearly a company dedicated to creating impeccable work that truly matters," and Heather E. Cunningham's performance was honored alongside Romeo and Juliet’s Lauren Ambrose and August: Osage County’s Deanna Dunagan as one of Backstage's ‘2007 Performances to Remember’.
Retro Productions put themselves on the map in their fourth season producing Sally Nemeth's Mill Fire and What I Did Last Summer, called "...first-rate: brisk, sweet and occasionally quite moving," by playwright A.R. Gurney. This, their first season in residence at The Spoon Theater, garnered six 2008 New York Innovative Theatre Award nominations: two for performance and four for design, a New York Magazine ‘Off-off Broadway pick’ and the growing reputation of ‘the finished effect of a Retro Production’ (The Fab Marquee, Mill Fire). Kicking off with The Tender Trap and concluding with When You Comin’ Back Red Ryder? Retro's fifth season is proving that with a design team that has the ability to achieve 'theatrical time travel,' (The Fab Marquee) and "a powerful display of New York's dramatic talent," (offoffonline) Retro Productions is “...becoming a reliable source for first-class work.” (United Stages).
With historical context but creative license, both profane and profound, Mother of God! investigates the intersection of the politics of Sex and of Religion embedded in the story of the coming of the Messiah. Written by a Jewish mother about the ultimate Jewish Mother, this play expands upon what is a very short story in the New Testament.
The production features production design by Meganne George, and lighting design by Joyce Liao and Sound Design by Jenny Greeman.

Shakespeare's most loved comedy asks: What happens when four foolish lovers and a bunch of wannabe actors get lost in the forest? Well, when the forest is the meeting place of the King and Queen of the fairies, who can't resist meddling in the affairs of mortals, magic and mayhem ensues. Luckily, in spite of ass-heads, love spells, and slapstick, every man has his maid, the play is preferred, and everyone lives happily ever after. Starting with Letters from the Earth, Mark Twain’s version of the creation of the Universe: Satan writes letters home to his fellow archangels, telling them about this quaint little insignificant place and the “interesting fools” who populate it.
1601, A Conversation as it was by the Social Fireside in the Time of the Tudors is a ribald, bawdy romp that features characters from Elizabethan England, including Sir Walter Raleigh, Ben Jonson, Francis Bacon, Shakespeare, Elizabeth the First and others
The War Prayer, written late in Mark Twain’s life, puts the notion of war into a universal context, showing the other side of patriotism as the wilful destruction of equally valid human life.
A mini-musical version of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn leads into the finale of The Autobiography of Mark Twain, with a chapter dedicated to the death of one of his two remaining daughters. The power and poignancy of this piece resonates with everyone who has ever suffered a loss.
Simultaneously pious and profane, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot follows the Trial of the Millennium. Between Heaven and Hell, two attorneys argue the fate of the Bible's most infamous sinner, Judas Iscariot. Mother Theresa, Satan and Pontius Pilate are among the witnesses called to testify in Stephen Adly Guirgis's seriocomic look at free will, destiny, forgiveness and redemption. Religion has never been this real.

Come to Willy’s Lounge to see Shakespeare’s newest comedy. Bankrupt club owner William Sly is at the end of his tether; rather at the end of his star performer Queen Regina’s tethered whip. A washed up old has-been, Sly consoles himself by reverting back to his younger years when he dreamed of being a Shakespearean actor, coming up with inane plots for money and deviously interfering with the budding romances this sultry club inspires. Come watch as new lovers fall in love, sing and dance, fight and forgive, as a fresh story is told through familiar scenes. Shakespearean connoisseurs will have their heads spinning as they try to identify each of the 21 different plays used to tell our tale of “A Twelfth Night’s Dream About Nothing”. 
At a torture tribunal in medieval Spain, an Inquisitor's daughter falls in love with a prisoner. His ultimate betrayal causes her brutal death. 500 years later, both souls will have the opportunity to make things right.
Camping in the woods at an outdoor music festival, four friends observe birds, tomatoes, and the transient nature of love. 
The hero of the play, Aydin Devrim, is one of the country’s most successful businessmen. He bases his existence on money and power until the day he finds out that he has an untreatable illness.In his desperation, Aydin starts to reorder his life on his own terms. He unites his efforts to be himself again, purified of past mistakes, with his search for a cure.
The little things that he had not been able to see before suddenly gain new meaning. The urge to settle scores with his past take him to Sicily, where happiness (that no fame or fortune can ever provide) are waiting for him in a humble guesthouse.
Aydin reaches a point far surpassing all his hopes. And, ultimately, he realizes that money is of no use...without health.
THE FUNERAL DIRECTOR'S WIFE is a rare piece of Americana. Like OUR TOWN, PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION and SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY, it has the heart, flavor and humor of small town America as tales of the life and the foibles of the profession unfold. Co-author Douglass was married to an Iowa funeral director, and the incidents are all based on truth in that strange, unusual, fascinating environment. The Minneapolis Star and Tribune called THE FUNERAL DIRECTOR'S WIFE "a delightfully twisted commentary on marriage, the business and the small town in Iowa … The seemingly random events add up to a hilarious and touching whole."
Playwright KATHLEEN DOUGLASS has won awards for her writing at Beverly Hill's Film Festival, Writemovies.com, Writer's Place, First Glance Screenplay Contest, Austin Film Festival and Script Savvy Screenplay Contest. THE FUNERAL DIRECTOR'S WIFE was produced at The Illusion Theater in Minneapolis. Her play SO NICE A DIFFERENCE, a true historical adventure, was read at The Playwright's Center in Minneapolis in April of 2005. Her play CHURCH COUNCIL was workshopped at Iowa Writers Workshop. Kathy spent three years as a creative writer for KIMT TV, a CBS affiliate, writing, producing and doing voice-overs for over 100 commercials and several industrial films.
Playwright BETH GILLELAND co-wrote, with Bob Beverage, SISTERS OF SWING, The Story of the Andrews Sisters, which has been playing in theaters across the U.S. since its premiere in 2002. She has toured extensively with her one-woman show WHISTLING GIRLS AND CROWING HENS, which was initially developed and performed at the Illusion Theater in Minneapolis, and has written and performed for American Public Radio's Good Evening with Noah Adams, The First House on the Right, NPR's All Things Considered, and BBC Scotland via the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Director RICHMOND SHEPARD has directed and performed with the improvisational comedy troupes The L.A. Cabaret and Noo Yawk Tawk. In Los Angeles he produced, directed or acted in over thirty plays, including TRAVESTIES, COLD STORAGE (DramaLogue Award for Acting), LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT, and several musicals. In 2008 he re-translated (with Nick Wolfson) and directed Sartre's NO EXIT, and last August directed and co-starred in Ronald Ribman's COLD STORAGE. Richmond started America's first ensemble Mime troupe and still performs solo or with his company throughout the world. He currently teaches Mime and regularly conducts workshops in Mime and in Improvised Comedy at "The Playhouse" in Derry, Ireland.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST THEATER COMPANY is pleased to announce their revival of Stephen Belber's play MCREELE, directed by Leah Bonvissuto. MCREELE will play a three-week limited engagement at the Richmond Shepard Theatre (309 East 26th Street). Performances begin Wednesday, October 8 and continue through Saturday, October 25. MCREELE is the politically dramatic story of world-weary Delaware journalist, Rick Dayne, as he rediscovers his zeal liberating convicted murderer, Darius McReele, from sixteen years on death row. Darius' magnetic personality makes him a darling of the lecture circuit, leading to national media attention and political viability.
When the local Democratic Party taps McReele to challenge the Republican incumbent for his U.S. Senate seat, McReele hires Dayne to be his campaign manager. When questions arise about McReele's true culpability in the crime for which he has been cleared, Rick's attempt to salvage his faith in humanity runs up against his all-too-human desire to win at all costs.
Dayne's dilemma will reinforce the lesson all voters forget at their peril this election year: that politicians serve merely as warped reflections of themselves.

COLD STORAGE is set on the roof terrace of a New York cancer hospital. Welcome to the Carney Hook Marina Motel, where four would-be criminals are cooking up the heist of a lifetime. It's summer, 1984, and Eddie has a plan to steal two million dollars off a boat in the Chesapeake Bay – now he just needs a crew to pull it off. But when these schemers and dreamers collide with three tough and sultry broads, the course to a fortune is threatened by more than bad weather. THE LADY SWIMS TODAY is a drama in the tradition of Bogart and Bacall in Key Largo, with film noir shadows and flashes of comedy.
The cast of THE LADY SWIMS TODAY includes three "Sopranos" stars: Robert Funaro (Ridley Scott's upcoming film American Gangster, Dread Awakening), Maureen Van Zandt (Danny Aiello's upcoming film Anyone's Son), and Suzanne DiDonna ("Sex and the City"), as well as William Fowle, Gordon Silva, Kelli K. Barnett, and Jack Rodgerson.
Writer/Director H.G. Brown is the author of The Gargoyle, which won the Norman Corwin Prize at San Diego State University and was later produced for television, starring David McCallum; as well as Play Sinatra at the American Theater of Actors. He is the director of the plays Slow Dance On the Killing Ground and The Dock Brief in San Francisco, as well as Stepping Down for WAMU-FM Radio in Washington, D.C.
THE LADY SWIMS TODAY begins performances on Wednesday, February 7th at 8pm at The Richmond Shepard Theatre (309 E. 26th St. at 2nd Ave.), and plays for a limited engagement through Sunday, February 18th only. The performance schedule is Tuesday-Saturday at 8pm, with matinees on Saturday at 1:30pm and Sunday at 2pm.

The Belgian artist was renowned for creating whimsical, absurd paintings adored by all ages. This Is Not a Pipe Dream takes its name from one of his most famous creations, a painting of a pipe with the French message "This Is Not a Pipe" written underneath.
The play offers a glimpse of Magritte's early years when his unique vision of the world left him feeling ostracized, and his one possible outlet was taken by his father who refused to let him take art lessons. Using projected images and theatrical recreations of Magritte's beloved work, the play illuminates his inspiring story. This Is Not a Pipe Dream also seamlessly blends magic realism with physical comedy. The play captures the dreamlike quality of Magritte's paintings, and borrows elements from silent films, farce, and vaudeville to create its over-the-top slapstick humor. This Is Not a Pipe Dream encourages everyone to learn from Rene Magritte and pursue their pipe (and not so pipe) dreams.
This Is Not a Pipe Dream will be directed by SUNY Purchase professor and Drama League Fellow Tracy Bersley and feature a score by Emmy-nominated composer Gil Talmi (CBS Evening News, The Mummy Who Would Be King, Yu-Gi-Oh).
