The NYC-based ensemble of comedy performers returns with its own unique brand of original themed, character-driven improvisational shows performed in rep. July 11th, IRTE opens its fifth and final show of the season, CALAMITY! Directed and originally conceived by Bill Berg (IRTE Ensemble, Gotham City Improv), CALAMITY! is a live improvised action adventure disaster "movie."
The cast will include Artistic Director Nannette Deasy and IRTE Ensemble Robert Baumgardner, Curt Dixon, and Jamie Maloney. They will be joined by guest performers Evie Aronson (TruTV, HBO Films, Frigid Fest NY), Sam Katz (IRTE's Wow Wee! and Small Claims), Melissa Cole (Cherub Improv, Small Faces, IRTE's Late Night News) and Nate Betancourt (Critical Point Theatre’s podcast The Grayscale). The group’s collective credits include off-Broadway theater, national tours and feature film.

Each show will include appearances by talented up and comers from the NY indie music scene, including Carla Ulbrich July 11th, Tym Moss July 18 and Mr. David Jay July 25th.

Co-written by award-winning playwright/actor/director Stella Maria Perry and director/writer/actor/designer Oisin McGillion Hughes, HMLT is a full-length play based loosely on Shakespeare's Hamlet and Dark Lady Sonnets, as well as the works of Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges. Director Oisin McGillion Hughes augments the text with inspirations ranging from 1920s German Expressionism to the punk scene of 1970s London. Now, Santa's seemingly trustiest helpers -- his reindeer -- are ready to dish the dirt on "jolly" old St. Nick in The Eight: Reindeer Monologues. Scandal erupts at the North Pole when one of Santa's eight tiny reindeer accuses him of sexual harassment in this dark, dark, Christmas comedy. As mass media descends upon the event, the other members of the sleigh team demand to share their perspectives, and a horrific tale of corruption and perversion emerges, which seems to implicate everyone from the littlest elf to the tainted Saint himself. With each deer's confession, the truth behind the shocking allegations becomes clearer and clearer. ...and murkier and murkier. Accusations, rumors and all-out attacks fly faster than the jolly ol' man's sleigh in this foul-mouthed play that's sure to have mature audiences howling with holiday laughs.
Meet Brandon and Michael- a couple going through a very difficult time. But is their love always what it apperars to be? When two people play the relationship game to different ends it's not always clear who is using who.
Jerry kicks off the New Year wih his one man show "Hope".
Based on Jerry Ford's life growing up in Detroit, MI, the play depicts both the struggles and blessings he experienced. The audience watches Jerry as he faces life or death choices on the streets of Detroit, loses his brother, best friend, and his auntie; yet you also see how these horrifying events created a fire in his will to succeed through any darkness.
"Hope" was written to reassure people that there is a light shining somewhere along every dark road. We just have to persist until we find it to become successful.

About the Company: The Mix Theatre Company
Hi. We're The Mix. We're a theatre company. But, we're not like other companies, because this one is flat. Here's what that means:
In a flat company, innovators, thinkers, dreamers, schemers, and all kinds of talented people come together to work on projects. These projects are all modular, so they are not controlled by one entity, or confined to one location.
Say one of us wants to play Hamlet. We think that's super great, and we want to help them do that. So, they call everyone in The Mix who is nearest to them and see if there is an interest. Some of us will act, some will direct, some will promote, etc. We can do this because working in The Mix means that any one of us can do it all, and do it all well. If someone needs us as a poster designer, we are just as capable of doing that as if they had asked one of us to play Horatio.
Once we have as many people from The Mix as we can, we bring in people from outside the company to do whatever else we need them to. Now that the project is underway, it's the creator's to do with what they will. They are their own boss, and for the time being, the producer of this project. Whomever started it now makes sure it finishes with the same spirit it began.
Now say one of us has written a play and wants it performed immediately. Well, all they have to do is start the project, assemble their team, and make good art.

Nine days after Hurricane Katrina, two rescue workers wash up on the doorstep of a woman by the name of Pearl Haynes, wreaking more havoc than any force of nature can conjure. As these lives collide, all of the faith that she can muster and all of the Bible that Pearl can quote can no longer distance her from her haunted past.
The world premiere of Myra Slotnick’s new play, The Weight of Water, opened in Provincetown (the "Birthplace of the American Drama") at the Provincetown Theatre on October 6th, 2011 to much critical acclaim. In November of 2012, the entire original cast appeared in a staged reading of the play at The Abingdon Theatre in NY. The upcoming New York production features the original cast and creative team from The Provincetown Theater production.
The cast stars, New York based actors Geany Masai* (A Play About My Dad, Off-Broadway, 59E59) and Jamie Heinlein* (Penny Penniworth, Off-Broadway) as well as Cape Cod actors Andrew Clemons (Our Town, Cape Cod), Linda Daniels (Women of Motown), Jimi Little (The Jazz Funeral of Stella Brooks, Cape Cod) and Keith Amato (Blue Bloods, CBS).
The creative team includes, set design by Ellen Rousseau, lighting design by Mike Steers, costume design by Karen Billard, sound design by Jeffrey Billard and production stage manager Ashley Warren*.
Taking place in Greenwich Village, New York in the early 60's, the play depicts Sidney, an intellectual writer and his struggling actress wife, Iris. Sidney's friends include Alton Scales, an African-American activist who falls in love with Iris's beautiful sister Gloria, a supposed international model, and Wally O'Hara, a local reform politician willing to do anything to curb the extensive drug use of his local Greenwich Village.
By the end, each character will question the nature of personal commitment to an idea and the self-inflicted void of contentment.

A mother tries to bring her family together for a Christmas dinner. While on that journey, she deals with her up-scale, high class daughter Reneeka. She gets her daily gossip from her nosy, next door neighbor Roberta. Her son Franklin and Roberta's son Jessie tries to be the next big thing in the R&B industry.Her husband Mitch continues to be the lovable husband that he is but he's hiding something from her. With all of this going on, the most important thing to her is to see her son Darius come home from the war for Christmas. Will God answer her prayer and let Darius come home, or will she have to spend another Christmas Without Him???

The pieces we put on are clearly works in progress: short plays and staged readings that could be the beginnings of a longer works, films, or full length plays. Our workplace will be as much a laboratory as a theatre, a setting for us to try out new ideas, new styles, new forms.
Ultimately, Pencil Productions exists to help counteract an American theatre scene that is suffocating in the hands of artists and producers who are unwilling to risk failure. We hold that feigned security is an anathema to art. Particularly to live theatre. We hold that risk is a necessary element of successful theater, the means through which we can discover the rare and the truly beautiful. Pencil Productions is our risk.

La reconocida compañía de teatro, E3OUTLAWS PRODUCTIONS & CO., INC., trae a los escenarios neoyorquinos, el clásico de Lorca, Bodas De Sangre, una obra de pasión y amor, que nunca pasa de tiempo.
Enmanuel García Villavicencio, galardonado Director de Teatro dominicano, nos trae esta propuesta teatral porque es un fiel amante del Teatro Clásico y de las tragedias de amor, por lo que le apasiona el gran dramaturgo español, Federico García Lorca, quien decía: “El teatro es la poesía que se levanta del libro y se hace humana, y al hacerlo, habla y grita, llora y se desespera”. Por esta razón, en su nombre y para honrar su memoria, vimos en el mismo festival el año pasado, 2011, la representación de la obra “La Casa De Bernarda Alba” y este año nos presenta el drama “Bodas De Sangre”.
La verdadera historia de esta obra maestra comienza cuando, en la mañana del 25 de julio de 1928, Federico García Lorca, leyó en un periódico local la nota periodística sobre el trágico final de una boda, donde la novia fue raptada y más tarde, su raptor fue muerto. A partir de esta noticia Lorca “forja” la nueva historia, ubicando el suceso en una comunidad gitana que vivía en una de las comarcas del área.

About the Company: Triangle Rainbow Theatre
Anthony Fusco playwright/director of the Triangle Rainbow Theatre Company presents Crossing Verrazano as his first full length drama based on a true story that took place at the legendary Stonewall bar in Greenwich Village back in 2010. The play began in 2011 as a 25 minute one act drama for the Strawberry One Act festival, and was nominated for best director and was a semi finalist. The play was chosen to perform as part of the Encore series in the winter of 2012 at the Strawberry One Act festival, which has been fully developed into a 70 minute production, adding three new characters to the story. I feel this subject matter has a strong message to deliver to the audiences that come to see it.
D'AGOSTINO - a bizarre tale of self discovery, Allan Dawson discovers a human clone within his recently inherited property. What follows is an attempt to mold his new best friend to dire consequences. (Greece/USA/UK, 117')
This is a love story about a man named "Shaquan" and a woman named "Belinda," who met at the right time, but in the wrong place. Before they met, it was almost impossible for them to ever be in another trusted and loving relationship with anyone, due to their unpleasant previous relationships. After dating for a few years, "Shaquan" and "Belinda" fell in love and knew they were "equally yoked" to be together. They took a walk along the New York Hudson on a cool summer evening, which was the night they decided to become one under the "Ordinance of God." It was a match made from the heavens above.

A dramatic look into the life of a woman named Lola who is held back by love and a mental disease. Through Lola we see how a personality disorder that goes uncured and unnoticed can create serious issues and problems in an individuals life as well as the many faces of love in relationships, life, and in the heart of a woman. Mind Sweep will challenge the conceived notion of a woman in love, replacing it with this drastic model of how the heart can be ones worst enemy.
“Juan and Emmett” is a play written and directed by Alan Baxter which opens the doors to a very intense and suspenseful relationship between two men from different worlds. Juan Ortega is a male stripper and hustler who works in a small gay bar in the upper East-side of Manhattan. Juan is straight, lives in a Bronx ghetto, and is involved with his girlfriend Anise. Emmett is a very upper middle-class, overworked upscale corporate lawyer, but a responsible husband/father. He lives in a very luxurious apartment building, but is left alone a lot of the time by a traveling wife (professional writer) and a playboy son in his senior year at Yale. Emmett’s loneliness causes him to seek out a sexual companion at the bar where Juan performs. One paid night of sexual engagement, brings Juan and Emmett two men from totally different ethnic and totally different cultural backgrounds to a point which strips them of their everyday clothes, and allows them to share their true feelings and repressed aspirations that they can’t expose in their day-to-day existence. A very suspenseful dramatic ending, forces both men to acknowledge certain suppressed emotions that neither thought they had within them.
The cast includes actors Ricardo Manigat, Charles Baran, Raf Liriano, Trevor Crane, Julia Genoveva, Armando Ramirez, Joanna Bokovitz, and Wilmer Fernandez. Videography and Lights will be presented by Franklin Gonzalez. Set by Ricky Mangra and Emily Stedman, and original music by Robby Allan. Exquisite images of the male form, will be contributed and featured in the play by well-known German photographer, Hans Fahrmeyer.

The play takes place in 2020. And the dictatorship of the Castro brothers is over. According to expert analysts, through the years the military communist regime in Cuba, created several secret spots that were extracted from the geography of the Cuban archipelago. One such site is the point X, somewhere in the Sierra Maestra Mountains. At that point X, is in hiding, the former commander Eulalio and his assistant and lover, Yari. Both have spent several years in hiding, waiting to be rescued and smuggled out of the island. Commander Eulalio was notable for its abuses and violation of human rights of many citizens. Dozens of researchers supported by the International Commission for Human Rights, relentlessly pursue the fugitives, who are former members of the military apparatus, which distinguished themselves by their abuses and violations. CUBA: POINT X, through its three characters, "Commander Eulalio", semi kidnapped girlfriend, "Yari", and the researcher, "Adrian", poses in fiction, a look of a future hypothetical situation in Cuba. (Presented in Spanish with English subtitles)

A “limerence” is an obsessive like crush, an infatuation that is based most often on a complete projected idealized fiction, and usually not based on the real person themself. It is a part of the human experience, and has been around sense people started believing in Aphrodite, or that Eros or Cupid shot arrows into unsuspecting victims, or even love potions made people fall in love with the first person they laid eyes on.

The idea for the production came from our director/producer Rachele Fachini Ivers. She couldn't understand how audience after audience could go and see Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, with full knowledge of the ending, and never stand up and scream at Romeo 'No! Don't do it! She's NOT dead! STOP!'"

young male, growing up on a council estate in South London, to quit or
forget aspiring to anything other than the norm in the first place.
This powerfully funny and energetic one-man play follows the 30-year
passion plan of Steed. Armed with nothing but life’s own teachers to
present scenarios, a strict disciplinarian mother, bullying step- fathers,
alcoholic friends, suppressive teachers, flamboyant directors and inherent
doubts and fears. This adventure zooms way past normal life into a world
where anything is possible and can become possible by just making a run
for it and saying YES!
A COMEDY by Tennessee Williams!
The Tennessee Williams centennial celebration continues with this production of a lesser known gem of a play, Period of Adjustment, by the great American playwright that has warmth, wisdom, and hilarious good humor! This production is presented by Love Creek Productions, currently in its 26th year as one of New York's most acclaimed and prolific Off-Off Broadway companies, and in association with TimeSpace Theatre Company.
Period of Adjustment tells the story of two marriages at points of acute crisis. One couple has just broken up after five years together. The other has not been able to come to terms in one day of wedlock. Both couples are going through a ‘period of adjustment,’ and the phrase is tinged with irony. The play examines the sources of the crisis. Ralph Bates, a former war hero, has in-law trouble. George Haverstick, a war buddy who unexpectedly visits Ralph on Christmas Eve with his bride of one day, has the shakes. But, as it is a comedy, the end is a happy one!

SUDS, a gay serial, comedy-drama, takes place in a NYC brownstone. It’s about the entangled lives of a group of misfits some of whom have provocative pasts they do not wish to divulge to their present circle of friends. We follow Marty Hardman and the muscular love of his life, Jock, through their ups and downs, ins and outs. The friends who help them through love and loss include a writer of children’s books, a pretentious master-chef, a “non-performing” drag queen/fortune-teller who may actually have psychic gifts, a prostitute, and a man with a questionable identity. Every one has something to hide, but all secrets eventually are exposed, for good or ill. Through a series of mishaps, false-identities and a personal tragedy, we find real people struggling to live with themselves and one another. The cast includes Eddie Vona, Jacob Thompson, Albert Christmas, Dan Morrison, Matthew Minor, Larry Bullock and Pennie Diamond Quintana.

In a seemingly endless season of overcast skies and rainy weather, the clouds clear and present to you: a hip, fresh production of David Auburn’s Fifth Planet and Other Plays. This delightful series of one-acts by the award-winning playwright, who won both the Pulitzer and Tony for his play Proof, dives into the depths of relationships and the humor that inevitably occurs between people from different walks of life.
As we contemplate the most complex concepts of the universe, try to navigate a foreign country, or stress about personal responsibilities and obligations, it always seems that relationships amongst humans are the most complicated concepts out there. The characters steer through their worlds, with some acts only ten minutes long, and they all come full circle to eventually reveal the ultimate inner truth: “How the hell did we get here?!”
At the helm of this ambitious opening production for the Giraffe Players is Director Samir Yousef Mahadin. The show will incorporate sets and environments that will be expressed through the endless creative options of the projection screen, headed by Artist/Technical Director Darryl Specht. Minimal props make this a sharp and cleverly economical production for the fall season.

The Revolving Door" is a drama with poetic and musical overtones. The play is about the interpersonal relationships between the staff and residents in an institution for mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Two stories unfold though Tommy, Eddie and Linda. Tommy (staff) an aspiring actor/singer takes Eddie (resident) home for a visit. Tommy develops a friendship with Eddie and goes above and beyond his job guidelines to help Eddie get into a group home. Linda (Staff) aspires to be a registered nurse and to move on from her work at the institution. While she is there she is confronted by the harsh realities of her work and betrayal of a friendship. The Scenes fade from the apartment to the institution where we see the daily living conditions of the residence and their interaction with staff members.

Back in the late 1970s, Imer Begu visited Albania on a school trip from Yugoslavia and met Maksim Bektashi, who lived in Albania. Even at the age of seven, Imer knew they were to be friends forever with the seven year old Maksim. They made a promise or "besa" as Albanians call it, that one day they would be reunited with their children getting married. Two familes coming together.
The time has come for them to keep their promise and to tell Besnik Begu and Leila Bektashi that they are to be engaged and married as soon as possible. Customs and traditions are redicovered between an American Albanian family dreaming of the perfect Albanian bride and the Albanian Family only dreaming of an American future.
An Albanian never breaks their word, their honor and that a promise must be kept for the sake of tradition above all else... that is the meaning of an Albanian's "BESA"... or so they say.

From the Hip is a 48 Hour Play festival in which directors, actors, and playwrights are thrust into groups and allowed to collaborate. Improvisation is used as the spring board for the creative process and each festival always has a surprise theme. Playwrights take inspiration from improvisation to write a ten minute play- overnight. Actors and director are given a day to rehearse and perform the new play. On performance nights, the audience votes for their favorite. The winning plays move onto the finale night for a chance at winning an amazing prize.

To make matters worse, Tina has a group of nosy girlfriends lead by her best friend, Lisa who strays Tina into her unstable world. It isn’t long before Tina betrays her family and her life is in shambles. The couple’s son, Jr. is traumatized by their separation. Witnessing her son’s pain hastens Tina’s struggle to put the family back together.
The story also focuses on Karen who has locked herself into an abusive relationship despite constant clamoring and ridicule from her friends to get out of this situation before it is too late. Karen’s jubilant story is told through a beautiful dance and an emotional song called “I Know I’m Somebody!”

During an ostentatious wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee, estate, five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings below. "BIG NAKED FEET" written and directed by: Anthony Fusco was originally presented at the Strawberry One Act Festival in the summer of 2008 at Baruch College and was well received. This gay themed show has been slightly revised with an additional scene that adds a different flavor to the show. The show opens in Jasons shoe store with Chip a handsome twenty something year old browsing around not sure what he is looking for and a bit paranoid about the size of his feet, until Jason suggests he try a new profession in the fetish industry that would make him a fortune. Next Alan and Paul compare who the bigger man is, only to end the date on a sour note as Carl shows up unexpectedly. Moving into a private table for two at an intimate cafe Johnny gives Nick a run for his money as these VP's explore a whole new type of dessert, special of the day "FEET A LA MODE". Closing the show with Robbie and his two spicey latino roomies Jasmine and Millie as Robbie confesses to a secret he has been hiding. The Revolving Door" is a drama with poetic verse and musical overtones. The play is about the interpersonal relationships between the staff and residents in an institution for mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Two stories unfold through Tommy, Eddie and Linda. Tommy (staff) an aspiring actor/singer takes Eddie (resident) home for a visit. Tommy develops a friendship with Eddie and goes above and beyond his job guidelines to help Eddie get into a group home. Linda (Staff) aspires to be a registered nurse and to move on from her work at the institution. While she is there she is confronted by the harsh realities of her work and betrayal of a friendship. The Scenes fade from the apartment to the institution where we see the daily living conditions of the residence and their interaction with staff members.

The Making of a Mulatto recounts the love story of an Afro American G.I. and his French Caucasian bride during World War 2. Juxtaposing the Jim Crow South with the Nazi regime in France, Juliette Fairley portrays more than 6 characters that impact her interracial parents who are still married today.

Five Flights is a comedy about three siblings, Adele, Bobby and Ed, who must decide the fate of a decaying, giant bird house they inherited. Everyone else in their lives wants a say. Fueling the debate is a growing congregation of people who love birds, the romantic advances of a professional hockey player, and a bird-themed bake sale.

These musicals are not actually bad but REALLY GOOD. However, they are all naughty, satirical, and politically incorrect. They're filled with bad language/puns and other sorts of things that would be otherwise frowned upon.
Approximately twelve short musicals are arranged in various theme evenings (ex: Is That a Gun in Your Pocket?). The bad house band, Bronze Fondue, and East Village comedians provide entertainment between the shows.
At the Fairies & Phantasies Benefit (7/25), legendary actress Marilyn Sokol and Warhol superstar Ultra Violet will be presented with honorary golden pineapples. Benefit attendees are encouraged to come in costume as a wacked-out version of their favorite children's character, and to bring a toy or book to donate to needy children. There will be costume prizes and raffles. Co-chairing this event are playwright Jean Hart and Kimberly Kopera. In keeping with the bad children's theatre theme that night, there will be lunchbox specials: assorted finger sandwiches (including P&J!), cupcakes, cake, cookies, penny candy, punch, booze, and more. Admission to the Fairies and Phantasies Benefit will be $25.00 though the price drops to $20.00 for those who come in costume.
There will be a Carmen Miranda Closing Benefit (8/10), featuring the presentation of the Golden Pineapple, Silver Tomato, and Bronze Banana (award winners selected by audience vote) for the playwrights & directors and the presentation of the Jack Lemons for the best bad actor & actress. Costumes are encouraged and there will be prizes. Come dressed as your favorite fruit! There will be a special award for the Best Carmen. $25 per person ($20 if you come in costume) benefits the company's work with under-served children & families, seniors & elderly. There will be entertainment, food, booze, and lots of fruit!

A Pirate's Lullaby is an intimate exploration of the complex bond between mother and daughter combined with a swashbuckling pirate epic. These courageous and compelling characters make no apologies for their lives, mistakes or desires. Poignant feminist themes are touched as Daisy studies the only real-life women pirates in history, Anne Bonney and Mary Reade, members of Calico Jack Rackham's crew captured in 1720. Daisy is inspired to take control of her life and her relationship with her overbearing, high-strung mother and to stand up to the government agent trying to force her out of her home on North Manitou Island. 
"UNIQUE" masterfully blends previous comedic work with new material, showcasing writer/director Hirotaka Otsuka's contemporary reflection on slapstick comedy. Blending influences from the best silent stars, Otsuka's new-wave is reminiscent of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, Italian Commedia Dell'Arte and satirical Japanese humor making way for a completely "UNIQUE" fusion of contemporary comedy.

"A Night of Boxing Off Broadway," is a multimedia event that explores the depths of a fighter's soul and celebrates the proud tradition of the sweet science of boxing.
The main event is the world premiere of "Kid Shamrock," starring former cruiserweight contender Seamus McDonagh and Patrick Joseph Connolly. This one-act play has been inspired by the life and times of Bobby Cassidy, a veteran of 18 years in the ring and the trainer of two world champions. It was written by Robert Cassidy Jr. and will be directed by Gary D. Morgan.
In addition to McDonagh and Connolly, co-stars also include Bobby Cassidy, Shane McCaughey, Shannon Lower David Morgan and Ron Ross.
The production is a five-round event that brings authors, actors, artists and tough guys to the same stage.

"The Revolving Door" is a drama with poetic and musical overtones. The play is about the interpersonal relationships between the staff and residents in an institution for mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Two stories unfold though Tommy, Eddie and Linda. Tommy (staff) an aspiring actor/singer takes Eddie (resident) home for a visit. Tommy develops a friendship with Eddie and goes above and beyond his job guidelines to help Eddie get into a group home. Linda (Staff) aspires to be a registered nurse and to move on from her work at the institution. While she is there she is confronted by the harsh realities of her work and betrayal of a friendship. The Scenes fade from the apartment to the institution where we see the daily living conditions of the residence and their interaction with staff members. 
Complete chaos breaks loose when a 6'3" 300 pound black woman from South Carolina with a bald head storms into a Brooklyn hair salon and demands a hair weave. Steven William, who has been mentored by a senior writer of both the The Cosby Show and Saturday Night Live, brings you this hilarious and uplifting short comedy about learning how to love and believe in yourself.

Can the band survive these pressures? The "artistic differences" that are splintering them apart? The drug-induced depressive funk their robot has slipped into? And is society even ready to accept a robot rock band? Love is Good is a bizarre skewering of rock culture that seeks to answer these questions and also serves as a satiric morality play...maybe... 
Adapted from Rudyard Kipling's landmark novel, the Jungle Book, this innovative retelling maintains the family-friendly quality of the original, while making the story accessible to a contemporary and urban audience. The Indian jungle of the classic tale is replaced with an urban schoolyard and the animals take on human roles and characteristics. Mowgli, the "mancub", moves through the play being raised by wolves, protected by Bagheera, the lonely panther, and schooled in the "Jungal Law." Through his ongoing conflict with Sherakhan, the wicked tiger, and his inevitable shift into adulthood, he is forced to mature and come to question his place in the world.

WHY WE HAVE A BODY is a funny, lyrical play about two young women, Lili and her emotionally troubled sister, Mary, who ache for the return of their mother, Eleanor, who left home years ago to "get lost." The play proceeds poetically through a collage of scenes in which the two sisters, their mother, and Lili's new lover Renee, speak alternately to the audience and to each other, as they try to live with absence and great distance. The women are taught few skills with which to navigate their lives, and in each case, the women's chosen fields are a flight from traditional roles, propelled by a fear of getting stuck in a groove of routine. The vast spaces that separate us from our past, from the ones we love, and from knowing ourselves constitute their landscape. Through contrasts and contradictions, Chafee presents the struggle and search of these four women in a kaleidoscopic form, shifting space and time, as each character finds her own road signs to point the way.

With the assistance of the best instructors in New York City, these twenty young talented individuals (12-17 yrs) have a life changing opportunity to live, breathe their passion and perform in an original off-Broadway show. This seven day intensive helps participants learn important techniques, gives them vital experience, and most importantly, gives them a first-hand realization of the pressures and obstacles of performing in New York City. These kids, from diverse backgrounds, make life long friendships and come together with the same dream of making it on Broadway.

When the prop he's working on comes to life, he is forced to make some painful decisions about love and relationships before everything starts burning up around him. Her Big Mamas prepare Daughter to go to the river, a rite of passage. Along the way, Daughter learns about how Big Mama, Aunt Mae, Miss Corine, and the rest of the women came to be strong, self-reliant Black women. She also learns about herself and the mystery behind her mother's absence. Secrets are revealed and a young life is changed forever in the climax of this touching, funny drama. 
The parking lot of a mini-mall convenience store is the private domain of three men in their very early twenties: Jeff, Buff and Tim. Jeff is a sometime student, Buff an easy-going party animal and Tim a virtual alcoholic Air Force vet. They talk trash, harass Nazeer, the Pakistani owner of the store and revel in their high-school glory days. They drink beer, get high, eat Oreos. Jeff ponders his problematic relationship with his artist girlfriend, Sooze, and Buff fantasizes a relationship with Sooze's best friend, Bee-Bee, a nurses' aide on the critical ward of the local hospital. The focal point of this evening is the arrival of an old high-school chum, Pony, and his female associate, Erica. Since Pony left Burnfield (the name of this fictional suburban town), he has gone on to become semi-famous fronting for a band that has an album on the charts and a video on MTV. In the course of the evening, all of the friends congregate in the parking lot. Once Pony arrives in his black limo, fascination with his success metamorphosizes into jealousy, then flowers into bitter anger. New liaisons evolve as Buff succeeds in wooing Bee-Bee; Tim discovers his splenetic misanthropy is a turn-on for Erica; and Pony turns Sooze's restlessness to his advantage. The building tension between the friends is accentuated with absurd physical moments and sheer violence: Sooze performs her piece for the group; Tim beats up Nazeer; and Buff gives new definition to the term "wrecked." As the next day dawns, some of the group have found their way out of Burnfield while the rest are left to deal with a tragedy that could have been any of them.
