LET'S PLAY PLAY AT THE GAME PLAY FESTIVAL

Genre: Festival, Other
written by Ben Ferber, directed by Todd Brian Backus

On the Internet everyone can hear you scream.

What happens when it's your job to be friends with someone? When do you compromise artistic integrity for cash? Two Internet personalities skyrocket to stardom with a new “Let’s Play” video game show. But when a female gamer joins them, things get ugly. And then even uglier.

Let’s Play Play is about selling out, and how we use Internet personalities as replacements for real friends. It also embodies the infamously horrifying vitriol of YouTube comments.

Part of the 2015 Game Play festival.

PRAISE FOR LET'S PLAY PLAY

"Let's Play Play deals nicely with this IRL/URL tug-of-war, something to think about the next time you try to have an opinion on the internet." - Liz Richards, Indie Theater Now

About the Company: PowerOut

PowerOut was formed when ten theatre artists met during a blackout. We set out to create adventurous new theatre.

We began working together in Portland Maine in 2011. Today, many of our original members have reunited in New York, after working at companies such as the Manhattan Theatre Club, the Williamstown Theatre Festival, American Conservatory Theatre, the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, the California Shakespeare Theatre, and Portland Stage Company. Our intention remains to create new theatre. Since opening shop in New York City in 2014 they have produced Not Afraid and collaborated on: Let’s Play Play (FRIGID, Game Play), Take the Car (Williamstown Theatre Festival), For the Lulz (Williamstown Theatre Festival), Derek and the Sheep (Communal Spaces).

Founding Members: Todd Brian Backus, Nora Sørena Casey, Ben Ferber, Jenna Grossman, Emily Mahaffey, Liz Petley, Julie Shelton, Shannon Stockwell, Emily White,  and Ella Wrenn.
