Held in a basement for 16 years,a young woman looks back on her life, and the life of her captor. At least, she thinks it is her life. She thinks it is his. A riveting exploration into the confused imagination of the captive mind, Blackbird comes to New York in an original environmental production following sell-out seasons in the UK.
Blackbird, marks the introduction of an exciting new British theater artist to the New York arts community. Cox has a long-standing relationship with Schmucks Theatre, writing the world premiere production of St. Swithins’ Day, which was presented at The Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. Heralded as ‘a dark and mesmerizing tale of the truly complex nature of love’ (The Public Reviews), Blackbird is a Manchester Theatre Award nominee, recipient of the Forever Manchester Award, and was produced in the UK by the prestigious Lowry Theatre, as a part of the 2012 re:Play festival.
'I suspect we will be seeing more of Cox after this impressive debut.'
