NEW WORKS: HHHUUGGGSS

Genre: Dance Theater

Bryan Campbell (New York/Paris) and Dina Khuseyn (Moscow/Paris) present a new work that is both a performance and a tool. "Hhhuugggss" questions the biological sympathies that construct themselves like silk-fiber bridges between the performers and the audience. Bryan and Dina want to know what you're feeling. At the same time, they're only accountable to themselves, sorry. Central to the performance is the question of speed, which opens us to time, love, anger, materiality. Someone told them last year that the end of the Mayan calendar represents the end of the acceleration of time and the beginning of several millennia of deceleration. This work answers, "yeah maybe."

Bryan Campbell also presents a preview performance of a new solo work. "Marvelous" transforms the structure of a magazine into the dramaturgy of a live performance. The magazine, a container for miscellany, serves as a base for the construction of a text that interrogates histories of wealth, power, and the image, particularly via an investigation of performance modes in urban queer Ball culture. The performance commits to the superficial as a way to access substance in the tradition of the great Diva-Heros of history. Thus is born a form that exists between song, poetry recital, political speech, PowerPoint presentation, and tumblr.

New Works dance series at The Tank presents the work of emerging choreographers and facilitates dialogue through feedback sessions and QA. New Works is curated by Alexandra Albrecht and Jill Hockett.
