DROWNING OPHELIA: A NEW ROCK MUSICAL

Genre: Musical
Book by JD Cannady Music and Lyrics by Zack Powell Directed by JD Cannady

After her self-proclaimed “tragic” drowning, Ophelia finds herself in purgatory with nothing to do but wait for the inevitable- Hamlet to arrive. What else does a girl do in her situation but start a band and head out on tour? Through Drowning Ophelia, we see one girl with a microphone, a rocking band of Shakespeare’s most lovable clowns, and the story of Hamlet told through an exciting theatrical concert of sex, drowning, and rock ‘n’ roll.

Eliza Morris Ophelia

Eliza Morris (Ophelia) is beyond thrilled to be a part of this amazing ride and working with her very talented best friends. A senior at Illinois State University, she graduates in May with a Bachelor of Arts in acting. In addition to Ophelia, some of her favorite roles include Jean “Dead Man’s Cell Phone”, Hedy La Rue “How to Succeed…”, and Catherine “Proof”. Plans after graduation are TBD, but will no doubt be an adventure.

Mickey O'Sullivan (Hamlet) is pretty flippin’ excited to be playing with Riff Collective in Drowning Ophelia. O'Sullivan has recently been onstage in New York with "Waiting for Lefty" at the Portmanteau and The Working Theatre, "Uncle Morty's Funeral" by Joanna Zelman, "Melodrama Play" with Craig Newman, "Twelfth Night" with Time-Space, and "Wake" with Aisling Arts. Regionally Mick has performed at the Foldger Shakespeare Theater and Taffety Punk in "Two Noble Kinsmen" and "King John". You may have seen Mickey on Investigation Discovery Channel and watch out for the web-series Team Allies on Funny or Die, as well as "Emily" a short film released this past fall. Mickey's last project was in the role of Executive Producer of CCCFestival at Theatre Row.

Zack Powell Touchstone

Zack Powell (Music/Lyrics/Touchstone) is thrilled for Drowning Ophelia's New York debut. While his first time in the role of composer, Zack is finishing his MFA in Acting at Illinois State University with Henry Woronicz. Recent credits include Finch in “How To Succeed..”, Valentine in “Two Gentlemen of Verona” and Tuzenbach in “The Three Sisters.” Huge thanks to all the friends and family that have come together to make this happen and have supported this process. Thanks also to Jesse, Eliza, Pat, Tommy, and Micky for being insightful, bold, edgy, collaborative artists and making this journey so exciting.

While Patrick Boylan (Puck) has academic passions of studying sociology do differ from his theatrical passions, he has kept the latter alive by performing each semester with the School of Theatre at Illinois State University. On his off time, he enjoys playing piano, guitar and singing. Favorite authors include Noam Chompsky and Malcolm Gladwell. Post graduation, if he enjoys his first time to New York, he plans to move there to pursue a career in… something. Preferably acting. Patrick would like to thank Jesse-the director, playwright and good friend of his-for Jesse’s support through everything and for the pleasure of putting his name down for the 4th time as a director, his family for their unending love and care, and his friends for encouraging almost his every move. Enjoy the show! It’s fun!

Tommy Malouf Feste

Tommy Malouf (Feste) is honored and thrilled to be in "Drowning Ophelia," as a part of the New York Frigid Festival! He is a Theatre major at Illinois State University, and is so proud to be playing alongside and collaborating with his friends and colleagues. This is Tommy's first time participating in the Frigid New York Festival, and he would like to thank Jesse and Zack for creating such a creative and fun piece of art, and his friends and family for their unending support in this amazing journey.
