Cary, 22, is a lump of a human being. A year ago his world collapsed, when his bookseller mentor closed up shop and disappeared. His life is again upended when the mentor, fifty-something Hal Regan, returns with a proposal: "Wouldn't it be fun to blow up the big Barnes and Noble on Union Square?" Cary goes along reluctantly, becoming enthusiastic for the old man's mad quest when he meets Beatrice, a lovely young B&N employee who wants to help. But when she and Hal turn on each other, Cary must make a choice. Does he want love, or does he want books?
