DEATHWATCH

Genre: Classical, Drama, Lesbian+Gay, Festival
Written by Jean Genet, Translated by David Rudkin, Directed by Aaron Sparks

Two men share a prison cell with an infamous killer. One is in love with him. One wants to become him. Green Eyes, Maurice, and LeFranc have an uneasy symbiotic relationship. It is balanced precariously on verge of disaster. Today it explodes.
Jean Genet’s Deathwatch explores the brutal violence and sexual tension that lie just beneath the surface in prison life. Four female actors tackle this surreal prison drama, playing the man and highlighting Genet’s recurrent themes of sexuality and the performative nature of identity.
The Dialectix Group is thrilled to present the US premiere of Obie winning playwright David Rudkin’s translation of Deathwatch as part of The New York International Fringe Festival.
