LAND OF THE BABYDOLLS

Genre: Comedy
by Kristine Hipps and Lauren Cavanaugh, Directed by Lauren Cavanaugh

Zenbaby Theatre Company presents their New York premiere of “Land of the Babydolls” by Kristine Hipps and Lauren Cavanaugh. Show dates are February 19- 22, 2009 at Nicu’s Spoon Theater. Produced by Phil Newsom, and directed by Lauren Cavanaugh. This silly 60's comedy is a twisted tale of a girl, Lana, who leaves the comfort of her Vermont home to find herself in the big city of New York. She meets many talented people, including Stevie O’Mara, a bright starlet with a big downfall of drug use. Lana also meets Tiger, the sexy agent who gets her motor running. The characters go on a wild ride driven by greed, drugs, and a quest for fame, and a few of them get there, but with a price. Sound familiar? Yes, it may be a parody loosely based off of a famous trashy novel by Jacqueline Susann.

With: Sergio Arroyo, Amber Bogdewiecz, Michael Connell, Mark Epperson, Krsnaa Fitch, Julie Gragert, Belinda Hodler, Gina Labozetta, Amanda Marasch, David Montgomery, Katie Nelson-Croner, Phil Newsom, and Marcel Torres.

About the Company: Zenbaby Theatre Company

Zenbaby Theatre is a lively, experimental theatre company that explores women's issues through comedy. The company's mission is to have an avenue for new plays and unique artistic discovery through theatrical improvisation, dance, and newly developed music. The founding members encourage emerging talent to contact the company to create devised work in a collaborative environment. Many of the company's performances have been based on improvisation, influenced by Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, Christopher Durang, Kids in the Hall, Little Britain, and the Upright Citizen's Brigade.  Lauren Cavanaugh, Artistic Director, wrote and associate produced "Nunchuck Ninja Nuns" produced at the 13th Street Repertory Company.

Zenbaby Theatre Company is pleased to announce the world premiere of two new plays “Lovers & Thieves” by Sem Megson, and “Matty & The Airplane”, by Lauren Cavanaugh. Produced by Phil Newsom and Lauren Cavanaugh. Performances will be held June 5 – 21 at the Roy Arias’ Payan Theatre (300 West 43rd Street, NY, NY). This is the company’s second production of the season, coming quick off the heels of their successful comedy “Land of the Babydolls” by Kristine Hipps and Lauren Cavanaugh.
