FLAGBOY is a funny and dark coming-of-age autobiographical story about Jones, a fiery and curious young African-American boy, who explores what it means to be gay as he maneuvers through the urban worlds of Richmond, VA, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia, PA. His life changes when he discovers he is HIV positive -- a diagnosis he thinks will end all his hopes and dreams. Raw, comic, heartbreaking, and breathlessly empowering, FLAGBOY is a true testimony of what it means to live life out loud.
Playwright/performer Cornelius Jones Jr., currently from Broadway's THE LION KING, joins forces once again with director Joshua Ian with the ongoing development of FLAGBOY. The play successfully debuted last spring at Stage Left Studio as part of the Left Out Festival and then went on to a successful summer run at The Ninth Annual Midtown International Theater Festival, which Jones earned a nomination for Outstanding Performance in a Solo-Show.
