Opera and the Undoing of Women tells the story of the feminine condition through operatic favorites, including excerpts from Bizet's Carmen, Mozart's The Magic Flute and Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, among others, woven together with new writing. The piece draws on Catherine Clement's book of a similar title.
The performers of Experience Vocal Dance Company utilize a groundbreaking technique, the Integrative Performance Practice, which allows the trained performer the freedom to completely integrate unlimited movement and uncompromised belcanto singing. The resulting work is Vocal Dance Theatre, in which the performer's singing, movement and acting are not layered or combined but become a unified whole. One of the results of this practice is a radical break with the 400-year-old tradition that disallows singers the same physical and emotional freedom as actors and dancers. This is dance and opera together as you've never seen them before.
