TO THE DEATH OF MY OWN FAMILY

Genre: Drama
Written by David L. Meth, Directed by Peter Ratray, Starring Farah Bala

TO THE DEATH OF MY OWN FAMILY, directed by Peter Ratray, features Farah Bala in an internationally acclaimed one-woman performance which tells the story of an Afghan-American woman who returns to Afghanistan to help her father escape, only to witness the carnage of her entire family. Upon her return to the U.S., she is interrogated as a suspect, detained, humiliated and forced to justify her heartbreaking journey in order to reclaim her citizenship. It is the story of people caught between cultures, a chronicle of the suffering one bears when human rights are violated.

The play just finished touring 4 cities in India to standing-room-only and standing ovations: Chennai, Bangalore, Pondicherry, and Mumbai, where people who had to be turned away nearly started a riot until a second, unplanned performance was agreed upon. The play has also just been selected for the Kathmandu International Theatre Festival 2008.
