SHAKESPEARE'S SONNETS ON TAP

Genre: Drama, Dance
Text by William Shakespeare Directed by Awoye Timpo

Capping off the 2007 summer Shakespeare season, Novisi Productions is melding the vibrant language and musicality of Shakespeare's sonnets with the infinite rhythms of tap dance for three nights only in New York. It has often been said that the writer William Shakespeare was like a great jazz musician. By taking the poetic form of iambic pentameter and constructing poems of delicate and sometimes brutal language he created works of tremendous beauty that expressed a myriad of ideas and emotions.

For its momentous production of SHAKESPEARE'S SONNETS ON TAP Novisi Productions has invited tap dancers and actors to collaborate on an exploration of Shakespeare's sonnets. Dancers and actors have been paired and assigned a sonnet and each pair has created an extraordinary piece using tap and text.
