Friendships, Love and Truth All in a Mix: NYMC Refreshes Popular Belber Play

New York Metropolitan Collaborative is proud to open its second season, inaugural New York debut with Stephen Belber's "Tape". Cast: Stephen Seidel, Franco Bulaon, and Barika Taheer Edwards. The limited run production will run November 3rd- 5th, 2006 at Times Square Art Center, Payan Theatre, 43rd Street, Suite 506.

Vince, a drug dealing, volunteer firefighter, opens "Tape" with a secret, which he uses to manipulate his long-time best friend, Jon, at the height of his film career. Jon confesses to Vince that he date raped Vince's high school sweetheart, Amy. Jon is caught in a trap when he learns not only did Vince taped their entire conversation, has already arranged a dinner date with Amy for that night. Belber forces his characters to question their motives, perceptions and identity.

New York Metropolitan Collaborative refreshes this highly popular play with diverse casting and the use of live-action film. Action on stage is shown through the eyes of a hand-held camera acting as a fourth character mediator. The projected live filming shows the real life eccentricities and explosive relationships exposed in "Tape" on stage.

Stephen Seidel Vince, drug dealing volunteer firefighter
Stephen Seidel has appeared on SNL, Guiding Light as 'Dude' and recently completed the indie film feature, "Tantrum" by Sundance directors, the Crook Brothers, which was picked up by a division of Lions Gate. In addition, he has performed Hamlet and finished a reading with Tony award winner, Ray Aranha.

Franco Bulaon is a graduate of the theatre program at Bard College. His most notable theatre credits include "This is Our Youth", "Waiting for Godot", "The Ramayana", "Twelfth Night", "The Bald Soprano", "Salome" ,"The Comedy of Errors" and the NY Metropolitan Collaborative company premiere production of "The Burrows of Does" at the Minnesota Fringe Festival.
Barika Taheer Edwards, founder and artistic director, recently was nominated for "Emipre's Who Who Among Executive and Professional Women" for her work with the New York Metropolitan Collaborative. Acting credits included NYMC "Burrows of Does" and "The Promise" with Wincey Terry. Other NY credits highlight: World premiere of "Status Quo", "Saddam: The Musical", and "Scenes and Revelations" Film credits include: "Too Late to Cry", "Control Factor" and Juliet, "Romeo and Juliet". Ms. Edwards has directed short film "Secrets", the Canadian absurdist play "Tuna Fish Eulogy", and numerous children's theatre productions. Barika is an alumnus of the American Repertory Theatre/Moscow Art Theatre School at Harvard University, Terry Schreiber Studios and New York American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
