written by Christine Simpson, directed by Kevin Bartlett, musical director: Benjamin Ickies
Drawn loosely from Franz Kafka's art and life, THE GREAT CONJURER depicts the struggle of "K," a character forced to choose between a life that his parents wanted him to live -- career, marriage, security -- and the art that wanted to have life. Based in truth, THE GREAT CONJURER tweaks the facts to suit the art of fiction, creating a universal story about beauty, love and sacrifice in the pursuit of something great.
THE GREAT CONJURER is a multidisciplinary production incorporating live musicians playing a mix of music from klezmer to classical, as well as stylized movement, to help create the multiple levels of Kafka's real and imagined worlds.
