HENRIK IBSEN + JON FOSSE: NORWAY MEETS NEW YORK

Genre: Drama

Never before performed in the United States, Fosse's deathvariations tells the story of how a mother finds herself through the loss of her child. The play begins as she comes to tell her former husband that their adult daughter has died. She is in a state of anguish, attempting to make sense of life and death and the way things begin and end. We discover the daughter may have killed herself; the parents are forced to revisit their past and the way things came to be.

Ibsen's Rosmersholm centers on the relationship between reluctant rebel John Rosmer and his driven and secretive "friend" Rebecca West, as well as the hypocrisy of the powerful, conservative individuals ho interfere with their unconventional union. This new translation/adaptation firmly plants the story into a modern American setting, as it stays true to Ibsen's exploration of the motivation for John's late wife's suicide and the depth of Rebecca's involvement.
