Genre: Musical
book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, music by Stephen Flaherty, directed by Steven Smeltzer

Based on Rosa Guy's novel My Love, My Love, which in turn was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fable The Little Mermaid, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND is set on a mythical Caribbean island. This deceptively simple yet powerful fairy tale of star-crossed lovers explores the tradition of storytelling and the way people use stories to understand their own life experiences and come to terms with love, anger, forgiveness, faith, maturity and death. It deals with classic themes of love, loss, and redemption through the fabric of Caribbean culture, art, religion and social structure.
