"...strikes at the core of why "Real Black Men Don't Sit Crosslegged On The Floor"

Woodie King Jr.'s New Federal Theater once again elevates the Black theatrical Diaspora with its intense new stage production; "Real Black Men Don't Sit Crosslegged On The Floor (a collage in blues)."

Opening February 2nd and running through February 26th (Thursday-Friday, 7:30PM; Saturday, 8:00PM; Sunday, 3:00PM), "Real Black Men...," brilliantly written by Malik and daringly directed by Passion, is a seamless cohesion of poetry, prose, blues, rap and rhythm, that fearlessly takes an unflinching look at being Black and male in a hostile environment.

Featuring a stellar cast of gifted, multidimensional actors: Chet Anekwe, Jerome Preston Bates, D. K. Bowser, Gerard Catus, Arthur French, Nyasha Hatendi, Stanley Wayne Mathis and Charles Reuben (all courtesy of Actors Equity), "Real Black Men..." spans three decades (the 1960s through the 1990s), tracing the complicated lives of eight men of color and consciousness.

Among the play's captivating, multidimensional characters are a conjure man, cursed by his ex-lover; a gay man with AIDS who travels to Africa on a last journey of self-discovery; a wheelchair-bound Viet Nam veteran taunted by the ghost of a Viet Cong guerrilla fighter with, "Black man, why you fight here"; a jailhouse blues man; a spirit of the unborn who weaves in and out of all of the men's lives.

Playing at Henry Street Settlement's Abrons Arts Center/Experimental Theatre (466 Grand Street-Manhattan), and enhanced by a talented and tireless production staff (Stage Manager: Bayo, Set Designer: Ademola Olugebefola, Lighting Designer: Shirley Prendergast, Costume Designer: Vassie Welbeck-Browne, Sound Designer: Sean O'Halloran, Choreographer: Lynnard Williams, Musical Director: Gregg Payne, and Casting Director Lawrence Evans, this amazing, highly anticipated New Federal Theatre production, "....runs hot, runs cool, and strikes at the core of why "Real Black Men Don't Sit Crosslegged On The Floor."
