The "green-eyed monster" of jealousy between playwrights William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe comes to life in "Murdering Marlowe," a brilliant new play by Charles Marowitz. Jason King Jones directs this apocryphal thriller in its east coast premiere, onstage at the Access Theater from Tuesday, October 11 through Sunday, October 23.

Up-and-coming writer Will Shakespeare is trying to make a name for himself in London's theatre scene. Only 29 years old and stuck in a loveless marriage, Shakespeare's home life fares little better than his writing career, as he toils under the shadow of literary giant, Christopher Marlowe. Will's luck changes when the bawdy and brash Marlowe falls out of favor with the moralistic Crown government, and he suddenly finds himself poised to depose the "king" of the Elizabethan stage.

William Shakespeare is played by Cedric Hayman, whose Off-Broadway credits include "Richard III" with the Acting Company and "Unbound" with the Prospect Theatre Company. Christopher Marlowe is played by Glenn Peters, who comes to the show just from his performance in "The Shaggs: Philosophy of the World" with the 2005 New York Musical Theatre Festival. Off-Broadway credits include "The Turn of the Screw," "Murder by Poe," and "The Two Gentlemen of Verona."

Rounding out the cast of nine are Jeremy Beazlie as Ingram Frizer, Bryan Cogman as Henry Maunder, Nicholas Coleman as the Henchman, Patrick Hallahan as Robert Poley, Caralyn Kozlowski as Emilia, Tim McGeever as Philip Henslowe, and Mandy Olsen as Anne Hathaway.

The world of sixteenth-century London will be created by set designer Brian J. Ruggaber, costume designer Maggie Dick, lighting designer Aaron Spivey, and sound designer Zachary Quarles.
