IBSEN/FOSSE 2006: Two Master Playwrights 100 Years Apart
| Open: 08/04/06 Close: 09/09/06
This unique double bill unites Norway's two greatest playwrights, past and present. In this centennial year of Henrik Ibsen's death, Oslo Elsewhere - a young company dedicated to building a bridge between Norwegian and American theater - is seizing the opportunity to celebrate both the master and his heir apparent, Jon Fosse - Norway's preeminent contemporary playwright. IBSEN/FOSSE 2006 asks the question: is fate inescapable, or do we create our own destinies? A contemporary American adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's "Rosmersholm" alongside the U.S. premiere of Jon Fosse's "deathvariations" provide answers at once complementary, contradictory, timeless and provocative. Both plays are being performed in original, world-premiere translations.
