Two Minds, Two Worlds, One Subway Platform. How long can the most unlikely of friendships survive in the streets?

Set in the stark landscape of the New York City Subway; A‘Spress is the story of two unlikely companions struggling to survive, one with a guilt ridden conscience and dark past, the other living in a world that few can comprehend.

While each anti-hero is besieged by seemingly insurmountable obstacles, they are left with no choice but to depend on one another. Jack, a recovering addict, is running from a tragic mistake leaving him to care for Benji, an autistic man with no understanding of the reality facing them both. But Benji isn't the only one that needs saving. As Jack fights to outrun his demons, he discovers that Benji's need for him may only be outweighed by his own need for Benji.

Rising Sun, who brought you the acclaimed revivals of "An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein", the New York Innovative Theatre Awards nominated "Shape of Things" (2004), and the critically acclaimed hit "Hellcab", continues its tradition of bringing off beat stories to life, breaks new ground with a brand new play about desperation and survival in the most brutal of worlds.

The Crucible  | Open: 05/11/06 Close: 05/21/06
Rising Sun's work has been called:
"Intense and out-there, and just never lets up" .. NYtheatre.com
And "Well worth the audience's time and money" ...Oobr.com

For its hotly anticipated revival of Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" Rising Sun has enlisted director Melissa Attebery to lead their stellar ensemble in a powerful and timeless depiction of how intolerance and hysteria can traverse and tear a community apart.

Rising Sun is one of the current up and coming theatre companies in the Off-Off Broadway community that is establishing a reputation for their talented ensemble of writers, directors and actors featuring a strong selection of Original works balanced by revivals of off beat published works. Rising Sun brought New York City the acclaimed revivals of "An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein" & "The Shape of Things" (2004) which was nominated for two New York Innovative Theatre Awards and most recently the critically acclaimed smash hit "Hellcab" which played for 10 weeks to sold out audiences.

Using a multi-aged, multi-ethnic cast and a visual design of stark silhouettes, vivid colors and timeless dress, this production of The Crucible takes place on a modern visual landscape, as it leads the audience to the always busy intersection of sin, paranoia and intolerance. As the townsfolk engage with their hysterical surroundings, feelings of genuine religious piety collide with personal grudges, property feuds and forbidden sexual behavior. These tensions, pervade the town's religious sensibility and provide the raw materials for the tumult of the Salem witch trials.

This Production features the talents of
Director: Melissa Attebery
Stage Manager Dallas Bird
Assistant Stage Manager Sinem Balkir
Lighting Design: G. Ben Swope
Set Design: Jeremy Rosenstein
Costume Design: Katherine Stebbins

To Dionysus's surprise, Arthur Miller is at war with Anton Chekhov, battling over the Thrown of Theater in Hades.
