ABOUT CREATIVE ARTISTS LABORATORY Creative Artists Laboratory was founded in 1996 with the goal of creating theater that not only entertains but makes people think. Driven by the conviction that theater has the capacity to touch people in ways that make them better understand themselves, each other and their connection to the larger world, CAL has produced eight full seasons of contemporary and classical works. In the process CAL has earned kudos such as "brilliant", "exciting", "chock full of entertainment", and "riveting" from In Theater, Back Stage, The Amsterdam News, This Month On Stage, and OOBR.ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT Tanya Klein made her stage debut 22 years ago in a small village in the backwoods of Bavaria where she was born and raised. She moved to New York in 1992 at age 18. After spending a lot of time acting in and directing countless Off-Off-Broadway and Way-Off-Off Broadway shows, she started to independently produce plays around town. Subsequently she formed her own theater company, Creative Artists Laboratory, which had the good fortune of attaining something most NY theater companies wish for - its own space. From 1996 to 2004, each of CAL's year-round seasons comprised nine mainstage productions with an average run of four to six weeks, about 50 late-night shows, incorporating sketch-comedy, cabaret, and stand-up comedy as well as countless scene showcases and acting workshops. Ms. Klein was artistically involved in most productions and administratively involved in all of them. Ms. Klein's acting resume, if she stopped cutting it down, would comprise over 100 plays. Her directing credits number well over 200 shows, ranging from Chekhov, Ibsen and Strindberg to contemporary works. Her writing credits include numerous one-acts, as well as seven full-length plays. |
