Bees And Lions  | Open: 04/19/12 Close: 04/29/12
Sanguine Theatre Company presents the world premiere of a new play by Sarah M. Duncan. When Sean, the famous son of a multi-millionaire, crashes an employee party at one of his father’s hotels, he meets Julie, a low income hotel employee. Shortly thereafter, she agrees to go home with him, but they don’t get very far—on the way down, the elevator stops. Stuck, Julie and Sean contemplate getting help, but neither follows through. Their flirtatious, digging questions and taunts, not to mention mounting sexual tension, culminate in two startling confessions, prompting Julie to make a bold, controversial decision.
Inspired by Strindberg’s Miss Julie, Bees and Lions is also about the fall of a woman—but this time when said woman falls, she takes everyone with her—some willingly–in the name of her cause. Who will be the first to get back up?

COME BACK UP  | Open: 08/11/15 Close: 08/30/15
COME BACK UP is a fearless play, touching on sensitive and powerful topics. The focal character, Buddy, is an intellectually disabled black boy who wants to help his sister transition from purgatory to heaven. She died 11 years ago, and as her spirit resurfaces more strongly, Buddy's mother struggles to face the ghosts of her past, both physical and metaphorical. When Buddy is implicated in a tragic crime, his disability and race cloud public perceptions, and with the walls closing in, forgiveness starts to feel like a foreign word.

Directed by Jillian Robertson and featuring Tai Verley, Nicole Kontolefa, Amber Bogdewiecz, JT Tarpav, and Amber Avant.

Exit 27  | Open: 11/07/13 Close: 11/17/13

In celebration of its fourth season, Sanguine Theatre Company will produce EXIT 27, a new work by award-winning playwright, Aleks Merilo and directed by Mark Karafin. Based on a true story, EXIT 27 combines the themes of rejection, survival, and redemption in exploration of the human experience. As the overwhelming winner of Sanguine╩╝s highly competitive playwriting competition, EXIT 27 brings a stirring perspective of raw human nature in its NYC premiere.

Since the year 2000, the citizens of one town have abandoned nearly fourteen hundred boys in the Utah Desert. Deemed the “Lost Boys of Utah”, EXIT 27 is based on their true stories. Merilo’s play follows the journey of four of these “lost boys" to the edge of the desert. Exiled by their families from the only world they've known, the boys are forced to rebuild their lives as outsiders. Their only hope for survival? Each other.

Sanguine provides new experiences for its audiences is by producing unique, unheard stories. The theatre company’s annual Project Playwright competition encourages emerging artists to submit their new work. After highly selective rounds of preliminary judging, audiences at the annual event choose which finalists’ play will be produced in Sanguine’s upcoming season. This year EXIT 27 won the hearts of both the theatre’s audiences and Sanguine’s artistic team.

EXIT 27 will run November 7-17, 2013 at the Medicine Show Theatre on West 52nd Street between 11th and 12th avenues. Performances are November 7-9 at 8pm, November 13-16 at 8pm, and November 10 and 17 at 3pm. For more information about the show, visit www.sanguinenyc.com, or call: (281) 946-9563. In 2013, Jessica vanished. Now, her closest friends are reconstructing her with cutting-edge technology to try and track her down. They prime the android with memories from Jessica’s past, but it’s clear that their stories don’t add up. As Jessica’s friends fight for ownership over an artificial Jessica, the android listens, learns, and plays along. Suddenly, the line between robot and real life is very, very thin.

Written by a playwright who “daylights” as a software engineer, Jessica dissolves the metallic glamour of traditional science fiction and delivers a jarring encounter with artificial intelligence.

Jessica won Sanguine Theatre Company’s 2017 Project Playwright Festival. The play was chosen from hundreds of submissions to receive its world premiere as part of Sanguine’s 2017 season.

The cast will feature Anna Nemetz (Annotated History of the American Muskrat at the Ice Factory Festival/New Ohio), Alison Scaramella* (Be the Death of Me with The Civilians), Will Sarratt (Omega Kids with New Light Theater Project), Michael Patrick Trimm (Julius Caesar at The Public Theater), and Alli Trussell (Loose Cannon at Soho Playhouse) with Set and Lighting Design by Tyler M. Perry.  *Actor appears courtesy of the Actors’ Equity Association.

Who can predict what will happen the moment after a first kiss? Those tender, uncertain seconds can reveal worlds about the heart you’ve just touched. But they can also reveal the secret heart of the world around you -an unnerving notion at the core of Diana Son’s gentle, drama.

Wilde -- NY Premiere  | Open: 03/12/14 Close: 04/06/14
Sanguine Theatre Company brings Wild, Crystal Skillman's incisive play about love and longing, to New York after a successful run in Chicago.

Peter and Bobby graduated from Northwestern together, live together, work together and sleep together. But when on of them cheats with a woman, they dive into a world of wild sexual affairs that threaten what they once had. Set on a beach on Lake Michigan, Wild is a savagely funny Chicago story of desperate love.

When Wild premiered in Chicago, Time Out Chicago raved that “(Crystal) Skillman and Evan Caccioppoli get two things right: (1) the special ring of hell that is living with someone you’ve broken up with and (2) the fact that long-term love is more than anything an act of determination.” Centerstage added, “Not only is Skillman’s script filled with conflict, interesting characters and stark sexuality, but Caccioppoli’s direction allows it all to play out naturally."

The cast includes Jeff Ronan (These Seven Sicknesses, Flea Theater), Hunter Canning (Broadway: War Horse), Joshua Levine (Channeling Kevin Spacey, St. Luke’s), Diana Stahl (The Boat in the Tiger Suit, Brick Theater), Lyonel Reneau (US Tour: Shrek The Musical) and David Armanino (This Property Is Condemned, Dorothy Strelsin Theatre).

The creative team includes Jonathan Cottle (sets/lights), Holly Rihn (costumes), Grant Jefferson (sound), Jesse Geguzis (fight choreographer), Christopher Fitzer (resident creative), Jillian Robertson (producer), Karly Fischer (producer) and Anna Fearheiley (producer). The production stage manager is Lauren Stern.
