Established in 2010, Smoke & Mirrors Collaborative blurs the lines of writer, director, and actor to create theater as a collaborative group of artists. As a globally focused company that speaks locally, Smoke & Mirrors Collaborative strives to reshape the landscape of theatre by combining socially relevant themes with a child-like sense of curiosity. Each project seeks to familiarize the unknown and to de-familiarize the known. Past collaborations have included the workshop presentation of SKYPE DUET (A Co-Production with Per Aspera Productions, Berlin Germany). http://www.smokemirrors.org

Smoke & Mirrors Collaborative presents POINT OF DEPARTURE Directed by Jonathan David Martin (Lincoln Center Theater’s WARHORSE), assistant directed by Katie Meister (Shakespeare in the Park's ALLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL), and originally conceived with Zoey Martinson (Shakespeare in the Park’s ALLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL) and MacKenzie Meehan (Classic Stage Company’s DOUBLE FALSEHOOD) as the highly –anticipated inaugural production of this Brooklyn-based theater company. Performances begin Friday, September 16 and play through September 25, two weekends only, at Theater For The New City (155 1st Ave, New York, NY).
POINT OF DEPARTURE follows a series of extreme characters through the absurd landscape of a post 9/11 airport terminal. Hidden baggage fees and security pat-downs merely scratch the surface of the obstacles each passenger has to overcome, finally to depart to their chosen destination.
This highly physical, multimedia production mines the dark humor of today’s airport experience. POINT OF DEPARTURE peeks into the wonder and frustrations of taking flight, as the audience is taken on a joyride of high-energy choreography, stimulating projections, and broad physical comedy.
POINT OF DEPARTURE features Johnson Chong*, Zoey Martinson*, MacKenzie Meehan*, Adam McNulty, and Court Wing. Has sets by Chris Morris with assistant David Meyer, costumes by Tilly Grimes, lighting by Gertjan Houben, video design by Katy Scoggin, and sound by Kortney Barber.
Tickets are $18 Adult and $15 Student/Senior with group discounts available, and can be purchased at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/190545. For additional information on reservations and accommodations please email Smokemirrors.email@example.com.
Major funding for POINT OF DEPARTURE is provided through The Leonore Annenberg Fellowship Fund for the Performing and Visual Arts. A project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania.

Smoke and Mirrors Collaborative presents Skype Duet (awarded the Juror prize at the 100° Festival in Berlin, 2011) created by Brina Stinehelfer, Arlene Chico Lugo, Zoey Martinson, Brandon Gardner, and in association with Per Aspera Productions in Berlin. Skype Duet is a co-production performed live simultaneously in New York and Berlin through Skype. Two young woman on different continents are on quest for human connection in the modern world. Poignant, funny, and familiar, this piece looks at our fear of loneliness, the beautiful power of computer mediated communication, and what we have sacrificed as a result of our need for it- a view of the evolution of human relationships through technology.
This interactive, intercontinental theater piece, will be an internet-based performance happening both at the TONY Lounge at New World Stages and at HAU 2 Theatre in Berlin. Featuring online audience interaction, and lots of the unexpected, this piece will provide the audience with the opportunity to interact directly with Germany and it's people (and vice verse).

About the Company: Smoke and Mirrors Collaborative
Smoke and Mirrors Collaborative is a theatre company that creates work through collaboration.
Every person involved in a production is asked to bring their entire artistic self into the room.
We therefore blur the lines of writer, director, and actor to create theatre as a collaborative group
of artists. The process begins with a question, a dare, and a desire to combine socially relevant
themes with a child-like sense of curiosity. Through investigation with a project specific group
of multi-disciplinary collaborators, we unearth a theatrical event.
Each project seeks to familiarize the unknown and to de-familiarize the known. Our intent is to
reshape the landscape of theatre by being a globally focused company that speaks locally.
Our work is that of sculptors, carving away at an infinite number of stories, images, and
questions to arrive at something idiosyncratic and universal.
