Uncle Vanya  | Open: 03/26/10 Close: 04/11/10
Extant Arts Company presents Uncle Vanya and three other theatrical events inspired by Anton Chekhov’s work as part of the Extant Chekhov Open, a celebration of the Russian master’s 150th birthday and the 40th Anniversary of Joseph Chaikin’s influential Open Theatre.

Uncle Vanya, translated by Jean-Claude Van Itallie and directed by Nancy Gabor, opens the three-week festival.  In Uncle Vanya, Chekhov captures the timeless desire for love, sex and a better life and the universal sense of restlessness.

Nancy Gabor is known for her work with the Joseph Chaikin and the Open Theatre.

The other Extant Chekhov Open events include Chain of Deed, a staged reading of Andy James Hoover’s new play inspired by The Cherry Orchard; Chekh-Impr-Ov, a full-length, completely improvised play in the style of Anton Chekhov by The New Deal; and Playing with Chekhov, a solo performance by James Kiberd, directed by Nancy Gabor.
