To bring the life and work of one of the great writers of the Harlem Renaissance to a new generation comes Langston Hughes: An American Celebration, the new dramatic musical from the Philadelphia-based Theatre Double Repertory Company written and directed by Michael LeLand. A blend of choreopoem, musical, drama, and music concert, and infused with period pieces by Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen and Kurt Weil, this production explores how Hughes's era and art influenced one another.
This limited 2-week run will be followed by a longer run at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and the Performing Arts in April 2008.
