Duo Theater and Room 5001 Theatre present Dale Wasserman's MAN OF LA MANCHA at the Duo Theater from March 20-30, 2008. Featuring eight men and music played only on two guitars, Quixote's well-known story of madness waging war against the ruthless cruelties of real life will be told as simply, brutally, and theatrically as it has always wanted to be heard. In this production, Cervantes must manipulate the power of theatre within a dark inquisition chamber to fight for his very life, progressively blurring the line between cruel reality and tragic fantasy.
MAN OF LA MANCHA is written by Dale Wasserman, with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion. The original production was staged by Albert Marre and produced by Albert W. Selden and Hal Jam. MAN OF LA MANCHA is directed by Joshua William Gelb, with musical direction by Justin Levine. Set design is by Eric Southern, lighting design by Brad King, costume design by David Mendizibal, and sound design by Brittany O'Neill (a founder of Room5001 Theatre, who has also recently produced and assistant directed with Naked Angels). Fight choreography is by Drew Leary with special effects by Laura Moss.
MAN OF LA MANCHA will be performed from March 20-30, 2008 at the DUO Theater, 62 East 4th Street, NYC, with performances Thursday through Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm. Tickets are $20 and are available at www.theatermania.com.
