Monday January 30th at 8pm.
Journey to Manhattan Part One- A Theatrical Evening will be held at Shetler Theatre 54. Part One is a tread through the nerve-racking Manhattan Acting Experience with a cast chock-full of skillful, able performers- each with a passion for theatre, each with an artistic drive that allows them to endeavor as New York Actors. An evening of polished monologues, diverse scenes, smooth dancing, and moving music.

Tuesday January 31st at 7pm.
Journey to Manhattan Part Two- A Night at the Cabaret will be held across the street at Dillon's Cabaret Theatre. Part Two is a dash and a stagger through the comedic chaos of actors struggling to perform on any stage they can! The music flows, the scripts are all over the place, the glamour is present, and yet never quite there- this cabaret is alive with gifted, comedic professionals.

Manhattan Fable- The Actress Who Cried Wolf!  | Open: 09/29/09 Close: 10/01/09
Another false pregnancy test, a fight with her lover, violation of trust, maybe multiple personalities,
dead people ... Something is wrong with Carla.

Manhattan Fable- The Actress Who Cried Wolf!  is a dark dramedy about two southern lovers fighting and loving in mid-town Manhattan.  Andrew, a very-handsome successful writer on the edge of obsessive-compulsive disorder, is unable to comprehend why his fiancée, Carla, is acting so strange and deceitful.  Carla, a beautiful very-intense actress, is falling apart, unable to deal with the heartbreak of her failures and the guilt of her unforgivable betrayal.  The relationship is weathered still more when Anna, Andrew's alcoholic tell-it-like-she-thinks-it-is mother, arrives to haunt Carla and coerce her into total insanity.  Even with the help of a fun, warm-hearted, kleptomaniac housekeeper named Acantha, this fable's lessons cannot elude tragedy.

Written & directed by Bobby Holder, Manhattan Fable is a dark comedy about what happens when an actress begins to believe her own lies.    Andrew, a young southern playwright, is loving and  living in a small mid-town Manhattan  apartment with his girlfriend  Carla, a troubled struggling actress.  Their relationship is devastated by love and lies on the anniversary of the day they met.  A stranger with secrets, Acantha,  befriends the couple, but her "burning" secrets cannot compare to what haunts Carla.  Andrew's drunk and dead mother, Anna,  arrives to torment Carla into insanity and murder.

Scandal in Manhattan is a cross between the movie CLUE and the television show DESIGNING WOMEN. The comedy is a very fast-paced farce, which is moved along swiftly by the acts (and yearnings) of a flamboyant front-desk supervisor, at a mid-town Manhattan hotel, who is continuously being overwhelmed by his straight staff and his "questionably straight" guests. All hell, lust, and love break loose when a young handsome gentlemen and an impatient southern woman, accused of killing her father with roach poison, arrive to check-in. The hotel (and the play) is packed full of peculiar individuals, each completing a life (and laugh-out loud) journey.

Scandal in Manhattan will be followed by:

Artiste'- Theatrical Showcase
The Artiste' Cafι is an intimate dwelling where actors and audience journey together through a carefully weaved evening of drama and comedy. Romance also hurdles into the mix with scenes such as Mabel's Able, where two stalkers in Jerusalem fall in love; Blind Date, where a swallowed button can lead anywhere; and Date with the Paramedics, where two Manhattan opposites share odd tales of their struggles to find love.

In this fast-paced second presentation of Dramedy, the evening moves swiftly with a touch of drama in a scene such as Mother, where three daughters confront their Deceased Mother about her wild ways, and side-splitting comedic sketches such as Babytalk, where a "Yum Yum", under a restaurant table, has more than one meaning, and Redneck Auction, where bids such as canned goods and beer might get you a hunk and bid of nickel will get you Cletus.

Season 18 All-Comedy Industry Showcases
Season 18 Industry Showcases are collections of edgy, all-comedy, fast-paced(90 minutes),
productions featuring over 20 actors per show performing scenes, solo pieces, and sketch-comedy.
Directed by The Actor's Project NYC (TAPNYC) artistic director Bobby Holder,
each show is filled with original comedic skits created by TAPNYC company writers.
Season 18 productions will be presented for producers, agents (commercial and legit),
talent managers, casting directors, and regular folks!

 

Our Fall Play:

Chipola by Waylon Wood
When the power goes out after a July storm in a small town in the Florida panhandle,
Wanna June Duke is determined to enjoy a languid evening under the stars by the light of the full moon.
But her son Roy Boy picks up (literally) their persnickety neighbor Miss Bailey
and deposits her in a lawn chair in the yard; her eldest daughter Dot arrives after leaving her husband;
and her younger daughter Jewel, fresh from a rendezvous at the river, has secrets to spill.
Like the river for which it is named, this play meanders, revealing a family’s history and the skeletons
in their closets that could finally tear them apart.
