All good plays ask fundamental questions. The play asks, not-so-simply: how much can appearance affect identity?
The show follows six characters whose personal struggles reflect the "color complex" in communities of African descent. It Goes Unsaid blends dramatic monologues, spoken word, and dance with film and photography. The debut of It Goes Unsaid at UCLA Raw Performing Arts Series in 2006 was a huge success.
Rhonney Greene and Teresa Michelle Lasley (co-founders of Under the Spell Productions) conceived and co-authored It Goes Unsaid with writer, Derek Lee McPhatter. Bryan E. Glover has also joined the team as producer with Ain Rashida Sykes as the production's director.
The Harlem Arts Alliance selected Teresa Michelle Lasley as a 2006 recipient from the Urban Artist Initiative/New York City for this production.
