Cheryl King Bio
Cheryl King left her 13-year career as a national touring stand-up comic in 1995 to write a solo show. In the 10 years since then, she completed that show, with successful runs in LA, NY and Ft. Collins, CO, and has become a respected acting coach and producer of solo shows in NYC. She is artistic director of the NY Solo Play Lab and Funny Women Fest, Sola Voce:Estrogenius at ManhattanTheatreSource and co-artistic director of the Midtown International Theatre Festival.

She also teaches writing, acting and comedy workshops in NY, LA and Chicago. She is active in women's causes, as an organizer of V-Day Events and an advisory board member of ARIA, Awareness of Rape and Incest through Art.

She is director of Cyndi Freeman's hit show "Inside Cherry Pitz" and also coaches solo show artists River Huston and Karen Thibodeau. She currently teaches Solo Show workshops independently as well as at Frederick Douglass Creative Arts Center. Her writing workshop, "Writing Your Heart Out" meets most Saturdays in NYC.

She teaches internationally in Denmark, England and Wales, and performs her solo show "not a nice girl" in European cities, as well as in LA and NYC.

She is currently co-writing, with Rod Menzies, a play called "Arturo's Window" based on the true life story of John Jerome, and putting finishing details on a playwriting book, both to be completed in the fall of 2005. She is a contributing writer to "The Soul of the American Actor" and a member of the Dramatists Guild.
