NEW YORK CITY – OK. WE GET IT. There are wonderful people in this world who grew up with the perfect amount of nurturing, who live simple lives with excellent boundaries, and have managed to keep an even keel despite the odds.
This show is not for those people.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE, an improvised comedy uniting improvisers and artists battling depression and mental illness, teams up with THE ANXIETY SHOW, a Canadian alt dark variety comedy show exploring different mental health disorders, as told by comedians, musicians, storytellers, and others firsthand, to make a ONE-NIGHT-ONLY DOUBLE BILL FUNDRAISER for Vibrant Emotional Health (the parent company behind the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, NYC Well, and other NYC-based life-saving initiatives).
THE ANXIETY SHOW has been featured on CBC, CUTV, and Global News, and explores the theme F**K NYC! On the bill are Danny Vega, Louie Pearlman, Kerry Ipema (One Woman Sex in the City), Kurt Fitzpatrick, Michele Lanham, and YOU in the Open Mic! YOU ARE NOT ALONE, in celebration of its five-year anniversary, will feature the core cast Aaron Gold, Michael Serpe, Candice Opperman, Justina Sparling, Shaun Farrugia, Tom Sanchez, and Ivy Hong, alongside special guests!

Aaron Gold is the founder and host of You Are Not Alone, as well as the podcast Don't Mind If I Don't, where fans and experts of things he doesn't like convince him why he is wrong. You may have heard him in Disney XD cartoons, or seen him on commercials for Boxed.com. If you see him, tell him how proud you are of him. You can lie to his face, he won't mind.
Michael Serpe is the co-host of You Are Not Alone. He can also be seen performing once a month at the Magnet Theater in Sequel: The Musical and serves as a fight choreographer for many community theaters in the tri-state area.
Justina Sparling is a Texas-born, South Carolina-raised, Wyoming-loving, Ohio-judging, New York-based improviser. She has been improvising since high school and loves it because the people are so great. She performs weekly at the Magnet theater, and before moving to New York in 2017 she did improv at Alchemy Comedy Theater in Greenville and Theater 99 in Charleston.
Candice Opperman began doing improv in 2012 to offset an intense career in finance. Officially burning out in 2013, she left finance after 10+ years to pursue performing and mental health full time. She credits Magnet Theater as a major factor in her recovery and is grateful to everyone in the community! Candice has advanced degrees in math and her Masters in Business. She is also a multiple degree black belt and former world champion in Shukokai Karate. Nowadays Candice is writing, acting and performing at Magnet as well as touring with her award winning Indy Improv Team "Five for Vendetta". Candice loves physical fitness and helping with creative projects so if you need help with either, reach out to her!
Shaun Farrugia has been performing since 2004. He tours internationally with his team Honey (https://honeyimprov.com) and helped build Shaun.Lol, a platform for generating fake Ted Talks built with Kory Mathewson (of RFT Theater Edmonton) and Thomas Winters. He's interested in Techno, Psychology, Tattoos, black coffee and cool sneakers. He has taught improv for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse Conferences and improv festivals. Ivy Hong has studied improv at both the UCB Theatre and Magnet Theater. She was in 2018's FringeNYC in Serving Brûlée, followed by The Testament of Josh: A Flesh and Blood Musical at The Brick in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Megan Phillips (The Anxiety Show - Creator, Producer)
Megan Phillips is a Canadian writer/performer and wombat-lover who has written and toured award-winning shows across North America since 2012 (People Suck – co-written with Peter Cavell, Periscope, Not Enough). She is ¼ of Codenames Improv, a monthly improv sleepover show, runs the Anxiety Show in Vancouver (supporting others to transform their personal demons into lolz), Watch for the Australian production of People Suckas part of Theatreworks Melbourne’s in November 2019. @megnatphil meganphillips.com
Kerry Ipema is a writer and actor based in Brooklyn. Most recently, she premiered Six Chick Flicks...or a Legally Blonde Pretty Woman Dirty Danced on the Beaches While Writing a Notebook on the Titanic at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival written with TJ Dawe following their successful show One Woman Sex and the City which had an off-Broadway run, a run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, a UK tour, and continues to tour North America. She also has a solo show Sex Ed and is the creator of Lady Bits, a theatrical fundraiser for Planned Parenthood. She’s toured with PostSecret: the Show and has performed in New York with Accomplice, Woodshed Collective, The Flea, UCB, and The PIT. Kerry lives in Brooklyn and grew up in the suburbs of Chicago.
Danny Vega is an NYC-based stand up comedian who has been featured on Food Network, TheFlama.com, and Betches. His stand up was featured on television (it's like streaming YouTube) on the show Trial by Laughter. He is a regular doing stand up around the city and has been seen at Gotham, New York Comedy Club, and more. His podcast, Am I The A**hole? Podcast, was recently covered by The Daily Dot. Danny's viral video, "I'm Walkin' Here: Casa Grande" is currently in the top 30 most-upvoted videos of all time on reddit's videos subreddit. He loves a soft brioche.
Kurt Fitzpatrick toured the Canadian and U.S. Fringe Festival circuit from 2004 to 2016 and then back again in 2019. He wrote and performed five solo shows, including the current show "Behind Every Great Mariska Hargitay is a Great Kurt Fitzpatrick." He also wrote and co-starred in "Best Picture," which was named Patrons' Pick in Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Orlando, and won the Producers Pick in the London Fringe Festival. In January he will be performing in "Uber Taxi Cab Confessions" at Winterfest in NYC. He can be heard on the podcast "A Lifetime of Hallmark." www.KurtFitzpatrick.com
Michele Lanham She's bold, she's brazen and busty. PTSD in tow since she was 19. There is not a coping skill she has not overturned, a homeopathic remedy she has not tried or a Saint she has not consulted. Louie Pearlman has been an innovator and a maverick of the New York City comedy and arts scene since 2002. Louie's officially-licensed Archie Comics/Riverdale stories "Nice Girls Finish Last,"“Nice Girls Finish Last 2: Hell Week” and “Riverdale’s Worst Nightmare” are currently available on the platform Yarn. Louie also co-hosts and produces the pop culture podcast XOXO Riverdale, and the live streaming radio show Kick The Jukebox. His pieces have appeared on Gizmodo, Rebeat Magazine and Tough Pigs. For over ten years Louie has been a producer, director, performer and teaching artist with the nationally recognized arts education company Story Pirates, where he's performed nationally in theaters, music festivals and schools.
