STRINGS

Genre: Drama, Festival
Charles Curtis

Inspired by the deaths of Trayvon Martin and other nameless black men, Strings follows a man set to be executed, a lawyer with an ulterior motive, and the strings that bind them both. While Derek prepares to defend the man he just met, they each find that no one is truly innocent. This show speaks of friendship, race, and a corrupt system. It speaks to the fact that no matter how fast we run, our past catches up with us eventually.

“I wanted to give voice to the scores of men of color that die needlessly in this country. Not just by those in uniform, but by our own hands. I wanted to challenge myself in writing this piece, and in doing so, I found a piece that continues to transform before my eyes. I am grateful for the opportunity to present my work at this prestigious festival,” noted Charles Curtis, playwright and director.
