Fabulous! The Queen Of New Musical Comedies  | Open: 08/09/12 Close: 08/26/12

FABULOUS! The Queen of New Musical Comedies

Write Act Repertory Eastside’s Producing Artistic Director John Lant present the New York Premiere of FABULOUS!, a celebrated limited engagement, opening August 11th, and closing August 26th 2012.

New York – Fabulous! The Queen of New Musical Comedies is a farce in the style of the Golden Age of Broadway. The show is a cross between Anything Goes, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Some Like It Hot. It begins in Paris! Two female impersonators, Jane Mann and Laura Lee Handle, are down on their luck. Backing up Sue Flay, the worst Drag Diva in France, proved a complete disaster. They're jobless and homeless. Just when Jane and Laura Lee get ready to throw in their powder puffs ... a telegram! They'll headline as fabulous showgirls on a cruise ship, the Queen Ethel May. The catch? Keeping their male identities a secret from snooping crew members, jewel heisting gangsters and every gentleman caller that comes their way. It's vintage musical theater meets contemporary farce in a new musical comedy where practically everything goes.

Starring: DEONTE L. WARREN, STEVEN DOUGLAS STEWART*, JOHN WASCAVAGE*, KRISTIN PIACENTILE*, BRYAN SEASTROM, AMY BIZJAK*, COURTER SIMMONS*, RICKY ALTAMIRANO, BRAD BONG, DAWOYNE A. HILL, OMAR MASKATI and AARON VANDERYACHT.

Book and Lyrics by Dan Derby, Music by Michael Rheault, Directed by Rick Hamilton, Choreographed by Mary Lauren, Produced by John Lant.

New York – A comedic musical which plays to the changing times of the 60’s,Sophia features a strong independent woman as a predecessor to Mary Tyler Moore (Richards) and Rhoda Morganstern (Valerie Harper). Our hero Sophia is a beautiful, articulate, sophisticated, bright, and educated woman, whose blind spot is relationships. Her pattern follows sequential frequent encounters with boyfriends, who depart after short term contact. Enlisting the help of her best friend Heather, Sophia tries therapy with renowned relationship expert Jake Kelly. Diagnosed with “Beautiful Woman Syndrome”, part of her rehabilitation is to recognize every “hit-man” which always leads to a quick tryst. Sophia must learn about the forgotten majority of male society and try to focus on the “invisible men”, those who would never approach her, if she is to find true love. She develops the ability to handle her encounters with a non-descript forgettable man named George, who is truly the man of her dreams.
