You're Invited to an Improvised and Interactive Birthday Party

Jamie McCluskey is turning 12 and you're invited to join the Improvisational Repertory Theatre Ensemble as they celebrate THE BIG DAY! When their comedy show Happy Birthday, Stupid Kid! hits the Producers' Club in New York, there'll be games, goodie bags, a birthday cake and plenty of mayhem. Plus, at each show, IRTE's cast of seasoned improvisers will be joined by a different musical guest.

LAST RESORT  | Open: 06/10/16 Close: 06/18/16
When you're old and you know your time is short what do you do? Go on a kick-ass vacation! Thrill seeking seniors spare no expense at going out with a bang at this resort. To hell with laws and rules when you know you'll die soon anyway. Join the Improvisational Repertory Theatre Ensemble (IRTE) at the ultra-exclusive Golden Sunset, the LAST RESORT you will ever need or want. IRTE mixes traditional theatrical storytelling with the excitement of off-the-cuff comedy for an improvised look at the "what-ifs" of life.  IRTE provides the basic framework, and you and your fellow audience members choose the items on the characters' bucket lists, which make up that evening's unique storyline. However, not all is as it seems at the Golden Sunset - Better not get in the way of these "oldies" and their ever accommodating staff, or you might just check out before they do!

Celebrating its fifth season, the award-winning group of trained actors work to develop, produce and perform a full season of original themed, theatrically-staged, and character-driven comedy shows based in improvisation and following the basic model of seasonal repertory theatre. IRTE has won praise for elevating the art of improvisational theatre while opening it up to a broader audience of theatergoers. Adding simple costumes, props, and strong characters and you get a very theatrical, raw, ridiculous and irreverent, narrative-driven and completely improvised show that has made a powerful impact around the country

Most recently, IRTE performed at the Theatre for the New City’s Dream Up Festival, three seasons of the Del Close Marathon, Philadelphia Improv Festival, Boston Comedy Arts Festival, NYC Improv Festival, two seasons of the Unscripted New York Improvised Theatre and Film Festival, Tampa Improv Festival, New Orleans Comedy Arts Festival, and Portland Improv Festival. They enjoyed a residency at Gotham City Improv, and were honored with the 2014 Supreme Honorary Improvised Theater & Film Award for Outstanding Genre Performance by Unscripted New York. They were named one of the “Seven Must-See Shows” of the 2014 Boston Comedy Arts Festival. In July, they will be appearing at the Midtown International Theatre Festival.

Please note that due to the improvisational nature of the show, there may be some adult content. The show is recommended for ages 13 and older with parental guidance.

Starring:

Robert Baumgardner, Nicole Beninato, Bill Berg, Nannette Deasy, Curt Dixon, Cedric Lilly, and Jamie Maloney.

With live music performed by Mr. David Jay.

The sixth Dream Up Festival (www.dreamupfestival.org) will be presented by Theater for the New City (TNC) from August 30 to September 20, 2015, offering a lineup of wide-ranging and original theatrical visions embracing drama, musicals, improv, aerial and more. The festival is dedicated to new works. TNC feels this festival is especially needed now in a time of declining donations to the arts, when grants are not being awarded due to market conditions and arts funding is being cut across the country and abroad. The festival aims to push ideas to the forefront through imaginative presentations so as to challenge audience expectations and make us question our understanding of the way art illuminates the world around us.
